A Day In The Life.

My left-side and belly pain kept getting worse Friday evening into Saturday morning, and though I had lots to do with loading/unloading 8 very heavy file boxes to a community shredding site at 8a, I did it anyway. I just kept my mouth shut and didn't say a word to either Dad or Becky, but I sure paid the price afterward. The Rx 20mg Oxys are about the only thing that even remotely help; my usual OTC 83mg childrens' coated aspirin doesn't do spit, nor does the Rx 10mg Valium or Rx 2mg Lorazepan.

After doing some small chores at Dad's, I got home around 10:30a, took 2 more Oxys, started some loads of laundry, and laid on th LR couch to rest for a short while. I have to drive to the Ol' GC&N site tomorrow, to meet with the new owners and turn over 2 heavy file boxes of archival documents, beginning in late 1989. By 1p, it was a delightful, warm and sunny 81°F, and tomorrow it's supposed to be dropping to 45°F and heavy rain is expected, streaming-up from the Gulf. The northern part of the plains and Upper Midwest is already getting slammed by 12-18" of snow and ice. Swell. Hey, it's Spring.

I'm tired of losing family and friends to Heart Disease – probably the way I'll go out, if Pancreatitis doesn't kill me first – and if I could reverse time, I'd work my ass off to find a cure for it.

By 3:30p, temps had already hit 84°F, and I was sitting on my front porch in one of the beach chairs, enjoying the Spring-like weather, before it "disappears" tomorrow. A couple of neighbors stopped-by, as they were walking their dogs, picking-up the fragrant poop. After catching-up on things, I was back into the condo to stay for the day, and fell asleep on the LR couch for 4-5hrs. That pretty much kills my sleep for the night, but when I woke-up at 7:30p, my side and belly pain were (mercifully) 80% gone. I stayed-up until 12:45a, watching the Barrett-Jackson Auction of Cars, and called it quits for the night.

I slept-in until 9:30a Sunday morning, pain 100% gone, had juice, cereal and coffee for breakfast, and decided to go to nearby Sears to look for some 2" waist smaller jeans. The ass-end is so baggy in the ones I'm wearing (34" x 30"), the back pockets are down to my knees. I found two pairs of 32" x 29", in their massive jean sales area, and will give those a tryout thru the week. After running a few errands, I went home and waiting for the new buyers of my property to can to meet them at the site, and turn-over 2 boxes of archival documents, plus go on a "tour" as to what they're doing with the place. I hadn't heard from then, so maybe something came up and they had to cancel; a phone call would have been nice.

Finally the paid-to-lie weather forecasters got one right: heaving rain and a 45°F drop in temps. That's one-in-a-row. Could have been snow like the Midwest got.

I stayed-up until 11p, to watch more Barrett-Jackson Car Auctions, finally had enough, and pulled the plug. It was raining "cats & dogs", as the streaming Gulf rain moved north and east on top of us. Tomorrow, I have to see if I can convert one of my 2009 HP Compaq Pro Microtower's slots to wireless, so I can run a 65" Class Q9FN QLED Smart 4K UHD TV (2018), as well as a 43" Class J5000 LED TV, for my new computer office, now moved to the sunroom. WOWZER! If it won't accept and run wireless, then I'm back to simple USB wires. All this stuff's down the road quite a piece, so I'm not concerned just yet.

That whole thing is a long ways away, at least until the Fall. Too much other stuff to do until I get to that phase.

Monday was a cold 45°F, heavy rain day, streaming-up from the Gulf, and which had brought blizzards and record snows to the Midwest. I had to few places to go, and after those errands, decided to stay-in where it was warm and dry. Lee stopped by and brought some ham & green beans he and his wife had for dinner last light. By then, I'd already eaten 3 Tacos and decided to keep them for Tuesday afternoon. I crashed around 10p. Busy day at the doctors, tomorrow.

Dad is officially 94 today! He sure got the good genes in the family.

I slept-in until 8:30a Tuesday, had coffee and breakfast and Becky picked-me up at 2p, for my 3p Pancreatic Surgeon, got a bunch of Lower Abdomen CT-Scans, Lower Abdomen Ultrasound, Stress Test, Bloodwork at a nearby lab and all which determine whether or not I'm a "candidate" for a Gall Ball Bladder removal, or not-so simple "procedure" to unclog a possible clogged duct to the Pancreas. Pray for the latter, as I loathe . There was a conflict after I got my schedule out and checked competing dates, so I'll have to call back do some rescheduling. I honestly don't know what I'd do without my sister, and her 41yrs of medical operations background there to advise and guide me. The whole day pretty much gone, we stopped at Dad's and wished him a Happy 94, gave him a homemade card, and as many more as he could take. Many family and friends can't believe he's lived that long.

I got my new lenses back – I use $65 clip-on sunglasses for those frames, so that saves $500+ buying them from the eye dr – and York Eye Associates install them, and they'll take some getting "used to", after 7yrs with the same lenses. I kept the frames; best frames I can remember having in all those years of wearing the dreaded glasses.

NatGeo had a 3hr special, "Hitler Youth, The Nazi Child Army", and I watched it for less than an hour or so. It was sickening, and I could only take it for so long. I bagged it for the night around 11pm; lots to do tomorrow again.

I woke-up at 4:15a Wednesday, and just couldn't get back to sleep, so I got up, made coffee, had a light breakfast of English muffins and Apricot jam, scanned the weather and headlines: Barbara Bush died overnight at-home, floods are everywhere south of York, PA, I'm still taking time to get used to the glasses, I have a boatload of lab tests, CT-Scans, Dr's appt's, evermore Dr's appt's, SHTF hitting the fan in the middle east, errands to do since being without my Jeep for 5 days, and much, much, much more.

Hells bells, after a few errands in the morning, and changing some medical abdominal scans around, I spent the day snoozing in that wonderful brown leather reclining chair w/ ottoman, that I'd gotten from Dad. It was 53°F outside, with the 35-45mph wind, it felt like 10°F. After being jolted awake and getting-up to answer the cellphone several times, I couldn't remember what day it was, so I kept it right next to me. Ha. I pulled the plug around 8:30p, and went up for some sleep. My pills' were getting to me.

Around 3:30a, the belly pain started-up again, and I moved from the bed down to the LR couch, took 2 more Rx painkillers, and slept until 8:30a, when the cleaning ladies showed-up. They were there for their usual 2½-hrs, changed the bed into new sheets, just one of 8 new sets. combined with one-of-two lightweight down blankets, it's a real pleasure to climb into bed every night. Coffee, English Muffin w/ poached eggs and I was set for the day.

Cloudy, cold, rainy and windy made it a perfect day to do some plant shopping, since the nurseries and garden centers were virtually empty, and their offerings were paltry, at best. Looks like it'll be a late Spring, and I'm sure glad I'm not in that industry/business anymore. The greenhouse growers must be having fits and starts with the up-and-down weather cycles; glad I don't have to deal with that crap, anymore. Suddenly, Spring and Summer will arrive with a vengeance and it'll be a madhouse with prices thru the roof, due to pent-up demand. No, I didn't buy anything, as they're's barely a few leaves and o color showing. And the next frost wil kill them - most nurserystokk which Wintered-over should be fine, but all annuals and most perennials are highly-susceptible to cold and frost. God forbid, we should have has 2-5" of ice and snow.

After getting home at 4:30p, I caught the news and weather, and the weather's ranging from the upper-30s to the low-70s; that should play hell & havoc with growers ad gardners alike. I thik that I'll wait a while until things stabilize before doing anythig befor doing any gardening outside. I watched the Velocity Channel until 11:30p, pulled the plug. Thre's always anothr week ahead. Besides, I have to get bloodwork drawn at Wellspan's Stoney Brook Lab, and pick-up some high-conctrast media dye to drink before my next CT-Scan on May 3rd. (((Sigh)))

Europe is on the verge of insolvency and collapse, no thanks in great part to Germany, teetering-and-tottering Asia and South America will quickly-follow, then comes the downfall of Canada, and The USA won't be far behind, in late 2012 and into 2013. However, he's not entirely wrong. This reminds me of an argument that Massachusetts Senate Democratic candidate Elizabeth Warren would probably make. If he's talking about a mid-sized or large business, where an entrepreneur has hired additional employees, then at that point the business's success isn't purely that of its founder.

Employees add value to a business through work and ideas. That's why you hire employees, after all. Steve Jobs didn't invent every last detail of the phones, computers, and tablets to come out of Apple over the last decade. There were engineers working on those products who developed them. So, employees help entrepreneurs to build their business. "Somebody else" did indeed play a part in making that happen.

But what makes the president's remarks so inane is the totality of what he's saying. He's not saying that entrepreneurs and employees work together to build a business. It's not a collaborative effort. It's all thanks to the employees. Usually, I can understand the way the president's mind works on most issues by examining it through a pragmatic, liberal, or progressive framework. This one baffles me.

As I explained, I can see that he has some of a point, but he's still just obviously wrong on the broader point. Sure, the employees help to build the business, but the business itself wouldn't exist without the entrepreneur. So, to say to entrepreneurs and to business owners, "...you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen," is just wrong. It's silly. They did build that by setting the foundation for the business.

Entrepreneurs are almost always the hardest workers in their business. They work a simply insane number of hours to get their idea off the ground. If they succeed (and they face a tremendous risk if they don't), then they'll start to grow and to hire employees to help. Honestly, if I were an entrepreneur and I read those remarks by the president, I would be furious. It's a tremendous insult to the true job-creators in America, entrepreneurs.

In the context of a long, somewhat rambling campaign speech that touched on every issue under the sun, it may seem as though I'm over-exaggerating the importance of a minor thing he said. But President Obama isn't a stupid man, or even one who makes off-the-cuff remarks he doesn't really mean. He's a very smart man, and he meant what he said.

When the most important issues for most Americans are economic growth and job creation, I believe it's essential to know exactly where both candidates stand on the importance of entrepreneurs.
