The Sciatica Nerve Pain is getting worse by the day. Some days, I can function just fine; other days, I can't walk more than 15-20ft, before having to sit down and rub my "pain points". (Whatever that means.) Hells bells, I massage where it hurts. I swear that I'm going to call Apple Hill Medical Center's new Pain Management Center, this week. I'm done with the Prednisone and Hydrocodone cocktails. I need pain relief, on a day-to-day basis, without chemicals. And no; surgery isn't an option.
Last weekend was a mix of cool weather (45°F) and rain (2.7"), which we needed after almost 2 weeks of dry weather, but at least we didn't get nailed with a freak snowstorm, as did most of the Midwest. I remember early Spring snowstorms around here, in the early 90s, which wreaked havoc on tender plants and gardeners' nerves. On Sunday afternoon, as we were preparing to leave the GC&N Complex, it began sleeting. And on Monday morning, it began snowing, as some squalls moved through. So much for Spring.
I'm at a crossroads, in my business: whether to remain open 7 days a week, or close down on Sundays starting next year. In '91, I was the first garden center & nursery in this area to open on Sunday, and I caught some flack for it from the church-going folks in the area. Now, almost all gc&ns are open on Sunday. Mentally and physically, I'm having a hard time working 7 days a week, without any significant days off or a decent vacation, for the past 15 years. Oh sure, I take Sundays off during the Winter months, but then from early March through December I'm at it 7 days a week. Maybe I could hire a weekend manager? Nah, people seek my advice and expertise, and it's very tough to find anyone to completely trust with my multi-million dollar business, except my Family. I've tried several and none have worked out. The loss of income from closing on Sundays would be significant in the Spring and Fall, my two busiest periods. That's another issue I'll have to address.

I've just finished reading Night Fall, by Nelson DeMille, graciously loaned to me by my friend, fly-to-sail. It's a fiction story about the July '96 downing of TWA 800, which I personally believe was shot down with a ship-fired missile. No, I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but I believe the US Government, FBI, NTSB and others have badly covered-up a terrorist incident, for fear the airline industry would crash and burn — no pun intended — and the national economy would then tank, if the truth were known. Once in a bluemoon, a customer tries to make a claim against me for a dead tree, but has no proof of purchase, and I require that to validate my exclusive 5-year Warranty. When the customer threatens me with an IRS investigation, criticizes my method of doing business, and says it's "my responsibility to keep track of all walk-in retail customer purchases", I get pissed-off, and blast them for not keeping relevant purchase receipts, for the 5-year period. Common sense, moron. Years ago, several people came in with dead trees and shrubs in the back of their pick-up trucks, and claimed the dead items were mine. But upon closer examination, I found K-Mart tags on the trees and shrubs, and physically threw them out of my Garden Center & Nursery Complex, with a specific warning never to return, upon penalty of arrest for trespassing. Such was the case on Wednesday. Some bimbo named Jodi "X", of Stewartstown, berated me for not keeping records of her purchases and installation, 6-7 months ago, and declared that I wouldn't honor my exclusive 5-Year Warranty. I calmly explained that if she wanted to return clothing or an appliance, she'd better have the receipt to prove that she'd purchased those items from that store, and that the value be clearly shown on the receipt. I rebutted her lib-dem crap, and hung up. I don't take crap from anyone.
