The "Dog Days of Summer" are truly here, a bit early this year, with temps way above so-called "normal" for the Mid-Atlantic Region. 97°F (Heat Index 106°F) on Thursday, and another 98°F (Heat Index 108°F) on Friday, with very high humidity. I sent my lscp crews home at 1pm, on Friday, as it was a slow day and two large tree installations, and many of them were dehydrating quickly in the heat, even though they were drinking copious amounts of water. It became dangerous to their health, to be in that condition, and I'd rather cut the workday short, than to jeopardize anyone's health, IMO. I stayed and closed down around 4:30pm, and went home to get some prep work done for that evening's dinner.
Last Friday night's 4 course dinner — actually two complete dinners melded into 4 courses — with J*** & D*****, was way beyond awesome; no doubt the best cheffing I've done in a long time; niggling health problems, notwithstanding. We started at around 6:15pm, and went until 11:30pm. I spent the next 3hrs doing clean-up, and I finally got to bed around 2:45am. I have two more dinners to chef — friends D*** & J**** and S*** & C******** — and then I'm *retiring*, from it all. It's just too much work. Ha!
Even though I'm now closed on Sundays, after 17yrs of 7-days-a-week, even now just working on Saturdays, truly sucks. It was 94°:f (Heat Index 102°F) and if we had 25 customers all day, I'd be surprised. The forecast is for more 95°F-plus heat this coming week, with even higher humidity levels, thereby creating even higher, more uncomfortable Heat Indexes, in the triple digits. Yuk.
(Okay, I'm complaining about 97°F & 98°F temps, with 45% humidity, and yet our Brave, Heroic US Military in those turd-world hellholes of Iraq and Afghanistan, are suffering through 115-120°F temps, but with a low 3% humidity, and in full battle gear, under constant attack and fire. How do they survive in those temps? Answer: lots of bottled water and salt pills. God Bless Our Troops. Our Veterans are truly "The Heroes Who Walk Amongst Us").
I slept-in until almost noon, on Sunday, but got-up at 7am, at the "urging" of Murphy, one of my condo cats, to feed him and Momma Kitty, and didn't even go out, all day. It only reached a paltry 81°F, as compared to previous days, but I enjoyed the AC and quietude. There was no real compelling reason to go anywhere, IMO. T-storms and rain set-in around 5pm, and helped somewhat with the ongoing drought. Temps quickly-dropped into the 70s, and I truly-enjoyed the sound of rainfall on my condo's 3 skylights. I listened to The Savage Nation Archives' replay of the past week's shows, several of which I'd missed, due to pesky customers coming-in late during the weekdays hours. And I'm still cleaning-up from Friday's 4-course dinner, BTW. Almost finished. Yuk.
Well, well, well; finally the fine folks at the EPA/ETC in Harrisburg (PA) have issued a so-called, "drought watch" for 58 counties, of 67 counties, in Pennsylvania, including most of the Susquehanna Valley. They also issued a "crop watch" drought warning. Big fricking *DUH*, folks! We've been in a drought for 3-4 years, and they are just finally figuring it out? Gas fuel prices, at the pump, have dropped another 3-4¢/gal, this week. Unleaded Regular is now at $2.75/gal, Unleaded Plus is at $2.85/gal, and Unleaded Premium is at $3.05/gal. I don't track diesel or kerosene fuels, anymore, as there are just too many variations on price, at too many fuels station places, IMO.
It was so damned hot/humid on Tuesday — with temps in mid-90s, and the Heat Index around 106°F — that I closed-down the GC&N Complex, right after my 13 employees left at 3:30pm, and went home myself, to AC, a cool shower and dry clothes. By mid-afternoon, everyone was wrung-out from the heat/humidity, and it was nice to get out of the GC&N Complex. Screw the posted 8am-5pm times; I'm the "boss", and I do what needs to be done. Got a problem with that? Get your own business, dammit. Ha!
Nursery Retailer Magazine called me on Tuesday mornig at 11am, for a pre-arranged telephone interview, on water garden construction and retail marketing. I'd already sent 55 digital pics to the writer, S** T*****, a week ago, and this was the "fleshing-out of her article copy points", which we'd agreed-to, earlier. Andf it went smoothly, with my LSCP Foreman, participating in the telephone interview. Many thanks, A***. He and I've shot 35 more digital pics, which I will again burn to a DVD-RW, and mail-off to her, on Wednesday. Copy deadline is Friday, August 17th — Pickle's 2yr death — and I will keep that date for their article/copy deadline.
With a 97°F temp and 67% humidity, we had 124°F Heat Index, on Wednesday. I went through several shirts, and was thoroughly-soaked again, by the time I left around 5pm. I sent Dad home early, and several "heat affected" employees also voluntarily-left, early. It was an unfit day to be outside, for any reason, except in a cool, 6ft deep swimming pool. I can remember working hard in 104°F+ heat, in 1990, when I was acting as GC (General Contractor) and supervising the building/ doing parts of the actual building myself, of the GC&N Complex, with freelance cconstruction workers - I was 41 then; I'm 57 now — and not minding those temps all that much, but as I've gotten older, I really do mind the oppressive heat/humidity in Summer, just as I mind the cold/ice in Winter. Spring and Fall are the two seasons I truly look forward to living-in, these days. Thursday and Friday were mirror images of Tuesday and Wednesday, BTW. In a word: miserable. The Midwest and East are getting hammered.
Thursday was a mixed bag: we got some very much-needed rainfall, as heavy-duty t-storms/rain moved through the area all afternoon and evening. Almost 1¼", and still counting, by 8pm. I bailed from the GC&N early at 4pm, since it was pouring, and got home early, for once. On the negative flip-side, the DJIA took a huge dump — down 387.18, its 2nd worst day in 2007, so far — over more irrational credit fears; and millions lost billions, once again. I'm pretty well sheltered out of that volatile market, with a very few profitable, yet stable exceptions, and my IRAs and other investments aren't so much specifically subjected to the whims, whine and fears of a bunch of highly-excitable, girly-type, Wall Street traders, also totally co-dependent on other stock markets, around the world. My broker? Edward Jones, in nearby Stewartstown (PA). My investments have *zoomed* in under two years, since leaving Morgan Stanley Dean Witter, in Morristown, NJ. I'm very pleased that I made that financial move, BTW.

Our appeals process can last 10-15-20 years, and the victims are still dead, while the subhuman, murderous, verminous criminal filth are getting "3 hots and a cot", for all those years, at US Taxpayers' expense, not to mention all the corrupt lawyers' huge costs. Personally, I'd rather see one innocent executed, than for 10 murderers go free. Call me "Old Fashioned" or whatever, but God will soon sort it all out, IMO. The victim(s) needs to be avenged, and their families need closure to their violent deaths. Forgiveness? That's for God to decide; not us mere humans. The American "Justice System"? Bull-freaking-shit, IMO! No such thing.
Did I say, "Justice System"? Well, not quite. The real problem in America is the "Criminal Justice System"; it isn't *justice* in any sense of the word. It's a "Legal System", and has nothing to do with so-called "Justice", IMO. To allow "plea bargains" is abhorrent to me, and many millions of other law-abiding, Conservative Americans, who believe that if you commit a crime, you should be punished, concurrent with that crime's severity. To allow murderers, rapists, child molesters-rapists-murderers, pedophiles, thieves, scumbags, lowlifes, subhumans, vermin, filth etc etc etc, back on to the streets, with a mere probation or fine, is destroying America. The death penalty is way under-used, and there are almost 10,000 subhumans on Death Row, awaiting their meeting with God. Over the past 15-20 years, America has been cowed into "liberal rehab" instead of "legal execution", and society has been made all the worse for it. Trial lawyers and their asshole buddies, gov't prosecutors are the real problem, in that they want to "dispose of pending cases", as expeditiously as they can, and if that means circumventing "real justice for the victims", so be it. Work the caseload; that's all that counts. In some ways, I admire Iran's "system of justice", in that they hang the criminals publicly, almost immediately after sentencing; screw the appeals. Our appeals process can last 10-15-20 years, and the victims are still dead, while the subhuman, murderous, verminous criminal filth are getting "3 hots and a cot", for all those years. Personally, I'd rather see one innocent executed, than for 10 murderers go free. Call me "Old Fashioned" or whatever, but God will soon sort it all out, IMO. The victims need to be avenged, and their families need closure to their violent deaths, IMO. Forgiveness? That's for God to decide; not us mere humans, IMO.
Therefore, I volunteer to do what America is afraid to do: execute criminals. I will, at my own expense, travel anywhere in the US, to prison sites, where subhuman, verminous filth are to be duly and legally executed — at a published cost of $1-2 million per execution (BULLSHIT!) — and perform the sanctioned, legal execution, with my Kimber 1911 "Eclipse Target II" .45cal ACP, at ZERO COST, to US and State Taxpayers.
