A Day In The Life
Friday morning was another cool/cold, sunny 44°F morning, with low humidity, and I overslept until 7:30am, but was supposed to be over at Dad's to finish-up the edging on the front and right-side of the house. I hurried thru my usual French-Roast, Turkish-Grind Coffee (from whole, freshly-ground Starbuck's® Dark French Roast Fresh Ground Beans) with my Chemex® Drip System, and Fresh-Squeezed OJ w/ lots of pulp, loaded my tools, grabbed a bananna for breakfast and left at 9am. Becky was just leaving with her realtor, to continue searching for the "perfect contemporary condo/home" in the York area. Heh. I got to work, re-edging all the front and right-side beds, spraying newly-emerging weeds, raking-off dead weeds, pruning shrubs and trees, cleaning-up 10 piles of debris and dumping the loads in the backyard "compost pile". I needed to get back
After unpacking all of the Allen Bros Filet Mignon Bacon-Wrapped 9oz Steaks, 10oz Wagyu steakburgers, 50 Sea Scallops and 15 free AB 8oz Steakburgers into the garage's Frigidaire® 14.8 cu. ft. Chest Freezer, I kept the 4 Styrofoam chests for future use, crushed the shipping boxes for recycling, and had a simple Egg & Olive Salad Sandwich for lunch. With a day's high of 77°F, I went out for a 1½-hr walk, before my left hip started complaining, so I headed home, ate a handful of Bayer® 325mg Aspirin, and put a cold-pak on it, while resting on the LR couch. I fell asleep for a hour or so, until a neighbor range the doorbell, asking a favor for her husband' BBQ Unit: move it off the deck so it could be power washed. That was easy. By 6pm, the Mark Levin Show was on until 9pm, and I stayed-up to watch "Hannity", since Levin was on for the full hour, discussing his new "Liberty Amendments" book. I lasted until 10, and called it a day.
I slept-in until 8am on Saturday morning; another 62°F and sunny day. After coffee and OJ, I checked the weather and news sites, email and noticed that the upper-80s/lower-90s will be returning over the next 2 weeks. Summer's back. Today's and tomorrow's temps would be in the mid-70s, while the rest of the week would jump back into the upper-80s and 90s. Best to get the outside work done now, than in the heat. I was going over to Dad's to dig and transplant some old, large shrubs, and then at 2pm, Arthur & Bob would arrive to help move (again!) Becky's furniture inside the house to avoid
I worked on a landscape project, beyond my capability without a helper, but was only partly successful in removing the plants; I had to use Round-Up® Pro® on both suckering Deutzia shrubs, and wait until it dies to dig it out. I'll replace it and several more shrubs on that east side, outside the Sunroom, with some 3-5gal evergreen/conifers for the Winter months, so Dad'll have something to look at right outside in the Sunroon foundation garden. I got home around 4:30pm, listened to the "Money Pit", "Dave Ramsey Show" and "Rusty Humphries Show" until it got dark at 7:45pm – days are getting shorter by the day and week: sunrise 6:15am, sunset 7:58pm – did some filing and research. Crap, I forgot to eat lunch! No biggie. I worked on my Sunday morning (I need to go back to Pastor Tom's Church), now that my load is lightening-up a little, with Becky here, food shopping list for Weis Market, check my 40 gas points/ 40¢ off per gallon, so I'll shop tomorrow and jack-up-the point/cents to 50¢/gal. My business load of selling the GC&N Complex, is going to become intense of the Winter 2013, Spring & Summer 2014 months. Temps had dropped to 63°F outside,
With the Sunday morning rain, I went back to sleep until 8am; so much for my plans to get to Weis Market, in East York, early and get my food shopping done. I finally got-up around 8:30 made coffee, OJ, toast, scanned the weather and new sites, checked email, got ready, revised my shopping list, manually set-off the Back-Up/Restore Schedule and left around 9:30. Roads still empty and Weis was uncrowded. I was back by 10:15, but stopped at a two "For Sale" condos in the area, to get listing names and information for Becky and her realtor. The drizzle continued most all day. I made a Bacon Cheddar-Cheeseburger w/ Fries for lunch, and worked on disassembling/cleaning/oiling a few firearms in my basement workshop, while listening to some much old podcasts of "Gun Talk", listened to "Gun Talk Radio" when it came on at KIDO-AM Streaming, and I also followed it on www.FR.com's thread, from 8-11pm. I did a load of laundry, folded and put it away. Tomorrow's bed linens change and I'm washing my older 5.11 Tan Tactical Vest and wearing my new 5.11® OD-Green Tactical Vest, to break it in. I closed-down, armed the Condo with the Honeywell® Lynx Plus® Security System, and went to bed at 11:30pm.
Sometime around 5:30am on Monday morning, I had the beginnings of a SHTF dream of the world's economy collapsing, but woke-up, shook-it-off, and rolled-over back to sleep until 7:30am. I made coffee, OJ, Scrapple, Toast & Eggs, and checked the weather and news sites. Delicious Penna Dutch breakfast. Still at 62°F from last night, the heat/humidity was forecast to return by mid-week. I stripped the bed, put thru another load of laundry, and tried to find something to listen to on the radio. I met Dad & Becky to look at 2 condos; no go. Temps in the low-80s. So I left to get some errands done, while she and her realtor set-up some more viewings for mid-afternoon. I went home around 12:30pm, made a Roast Beef Sandwich, cleaned-out the neighbor's rhododendron covered with weeds and vines, and left the 3ft pile for the lawnmower guy to deal with; at least I don't have to look at that mess thru my Sunroon Windows, anymore. I met Dad & Becky at 3pm near The Outdoor Country Club, to look at another condo, and she's going to make an offer on it. It was very nice. Afterward, I had some places to stop, and went home. Stacey from S&D Automotive called and asked if I could come by at 5pm tomorrow, to connect their 3 office and shop computers to the Verizon® and Net Gear® Network. I would, and started doing research on Net Gear's site about multiple units. The usual Mark Levin Show was on from 6-9pm, and I stayed-up to watch Fox News' "Hannity", from 9-10. By then, I'd had enough, armed the Condo and closed-down for the night.
That was a mistake; I should have stayed-up later. I was awake at 3:45am on Wednesday, and couldn't get back to sleep, so I made coffee, OJ, checked email, the weather and news sites, and listened to
Speaking of nothing working, the Verizon® Tech Dept had screwed-up the Cisco® Linksys WiFi USB with the wrong serial number, so the Net Gear product couldn't connect wirelessly, and it wouldn't let me erase it and install the correct key and serial number. I got Dave's critical Shop Laptop working in the Main Office with the router, and downloaded/installed a temporary AVG Virus
I did sleep-in late, until 8am on Thursday, got-up to an already getting-warm, sunny morning of 71°F;, made coffee, had some Del Monte® Red Grapefruit Sections and Eggs Benedict. I checked the usual weather and news sites, email and had several phone messages about an Rx being ready down at Rite Aid Pharmacy in Stewartstown, so I planned on driving down I-83 south mid-morning to pick-it up. I left at 9:15, stopped by my Dr's office to pick-up another Rx extension, and then went to Rite Aid to get the waiting Rx. I came home via Rt 24 north, which I'd driven to-and-from my business for 22yrs, past my old GC&N Complex, and was home by 12:15pm. I made Scrapple & Sunny-Side-Up Eggs, listened to Rush, and got the garbage ready to go out for tomorrow pick-up. Showers moved thru the area, high temp hit 87°F; for the day, and t-storms were heading for us, during the evening and overnight hours. Wall Street got hacked and took a dump. Swell; just wait until our pitiful national power grid
I decided to take a drive to a local garden center and look at some plants for the right-side of Dad's house, where I'd removed some large plants. My former landscape foreman, Alan, called with prices on a new front walk for Dad's house, so he and I need to visit some places to look at brick, pavers and flagstone. The nearby local garden center has a hardscape dealer with massive displays, right next door, so I stopped-in and picked-up a catalog, and then bought 3 very nice 2 & 3gal shrubs for Dad's right-side foundation. I tuned-into the live stream of the Mark Levin Show, from 6-9pm. Dad called at 6:30pm, and said that Becky's initial offer for the beautiful condo in North York was accepted, and the closing will be September 30th. Woo-hoo, way to go, Becky!
I stayed-up well past midnight, with a lot of things running around inside my head, trying to make sense of at least some of it at various news sites. There are a lot of "loose ends" blowing in the wind, right now, which I just can't seem to tie together and get a coherent picture. By 12:45am, I'd had enough, and would sleep-in again tomorrow, since there was nothing pressing on my schedule.
The days continue to get shorter (6:23am sunrise) and the nights longer (7:51pm sunset), as the Winter Solstice approaches. I still have a slew of projects to get to, before Winter sets-in. Sherry's landscape maintenance and revisions, and Spring planning. Getting a new commercial realtor ASAP to help me get the GC&N Complex sold. Dad's sidewalk and re-landscaping. Helping Becky get moved into her new condo. Visiting Linda/Scott's gardens; may have to put that off until Spring. Eye exam and new glasses. I'm making a "to do list" and will get done as much as I can while my left hip holds-out. Simple aspirin and rest fixes that quickly. Tomorrow starts a new week in the "Journal" and it's already full. The following week belongs to as much as we can get done on Sherry's project; some parts will have to wait until Spring.

Obama: "Entrepreneurs Don't Build Businesses"
"Last week, President Barack Obama delivered some telling remarks to a fire station full of people in Roanoke, Virginia. I'll save you the trouble of reading the (long and uninspired) speech and provide you with the most interesting part:
"If you've got a business – you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen." – President Barack Obama, July 13th, 2012.
It would be easy to respond with something along the lines of, "Somebody else made that happen? Who? Who magically imagined the product or service, started the business, built it up, and created the jobs? Who was it? The tooth fairy?" And to some extent, President Obama's statement is so ridiculous as to merit that sort of quick, flippant response.

However, he's not entirely wrong. This reminds me of an argument that Massachusetts Senate Democratic candidate Elizabeth Warren would probably make. If he's talking about a mid-sized or large business, where an entrepreneur has hired additional employees, then at that point the business's success isn't purely that of its founder.
Employees add value to a business through work and ideas. That's why you hire employees, after all. Steve Jobs didn't invent every last detail of the phones, computers, and tablets to come out of Apple over the last decade. There were engineers working on those products who developed them. So, employees help entrepreneurs to build their business. "Somebody else" did indeed play a part in making that happen.
But what makes the president's remarks so inane is the totality of what he's saying. He's not saying that entrepreneurs and employees work together to build a business. It's not a collaborative effort. It's all thanks to the employees. Usually, I can understand the way the president's mind works on most issues by examining it through a pragmatic, liberal, or progressive framework. This one baffles me.
As I explained, I can see that he has some of a point, but he's still just obviously wrong on the broader point. Sure, the employees help to build the business, but the business itself wouldn't exist without the entrepreneur. So, to say to entrepreneurs and to business owners, "...you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen," is just wrong. It's silly. They did build that by setting the foundation for the business.
Entrepreneurs are almost always the hardest workers in their business. They work a simply insane number of hours to get their idea off the ground. If they succeed (and they face a tremendous risk if they don't), then they'll start to grow and to hire employees to help. Honestly, if I were an entrepreneur and I read those remarks by the president, I would be furious. It's a tremendous insult to the true job-creators in America, entrepreneurs.
In the context of a long, somewhat rambling campaign speech that touched on every issue under the sun, it may seem as though I'm over-exaggerating the importance of a minor thing he said. But President Obama isn't a stupid man, or even one who makes off-the-cuff remarks he doesn't really mean. He's a very smart man, and he meant what he said.
When the most important issues for most Americans are economic growth and job creation, I believe it's essential to know exactly where both candidates stand on the importance of entrepreneurs. Some People Just Need Killing
It's not my intentions to be the judge here — that's God's "job" — but rather to "hasten the meeting" so that He can send the following subhuman filth to the "Fires of Hell", "River or Lake of Sulphur", or whatever He deems appropriate. I'd gladly/happily volunteer, at no cost to any of my Hard-Working, Fellow US Taxpayers, to gladly/gleefully/happily headshoot these murderous, lowlife dirtbags of all stripes — their skin-color doesn't matter one whit to me, at all — and rid American Society's innocents — especially our too-vulnerable, precious children and the frail, defenseless elderly — of the subhuman criminals who prey upon them, once-and-for-ever. And yes, I'd rather see one innocent man convicted and executed, than 10 murderers, robbers, child rapists-murderers freed, to rob, rape and murder again. Hey, call me an "Old Fashioned Conservative"! Too harsh? Nah. Someone needs to take out the trash! I volunteer.
Society's innocents — our precious, defenseless children and the frail, defenseless elderly — must be protected from predators, murderers, rapists, robbers and other subhuman filth, at all times and at any cost, IMO.
The 6th Commandment actually says: "Thou Shalt Not Murder". It does NOT say, "Thou Shalt Not Kill." I personally don't consider any summary-execution — except by subhuman, murderous muslim/islamic pigshit — as murder, in any way, shape or form. It's "Due-Justice-For-Crimes-On-This-Earth", IMO.
