Around The Garden Center™.
The 50s and 60s temps weren't too tough to take, last week, after Sunday's Blizzard of '06. Most of the snow melted quickly by the weekend. It's a good bit cooler this week, with temps back into the 20s and 30s. But at least it wasn't more snow.
I slept-in on Sunday until noon — yes, it was nice, for a change — and didn't go into the GC&N Complex. In fact, I didn't even go out on Sunday; just lounged around in my jammies and robe, with my two condo cats. When I got into work on Monday, I saw a river of water pouring out of the front of the Main Greenhouse. A water pipe running along the steel rafters had burst, and it looked like Niagara Falls cascading down. I shut off the water and made the necessary pipe replacements.
Gas prices have dropped another 10¢ this week, at the pump. Unleaded Regular is now at $2.15/gal, Unleaded Plus at $2.25/gal, and Unleaded Premium at $2.45/gal. Diesel fuel dropped to $2.69/ gal. Did you have President's Day Washington's Birthday, off? I didn't, but all government, banks and many local businesses, did. Traffic was sparse, but there was plenty of action. A barn just down the road from me went up in flames, early in the morning. By the time I'd neared the GC&N Complex, all roads were blocked and detoured. Six fire (tanker) trucks were filling-up at the pond just down the road from my entrance, so the highway was wet, freezing and a PennDOT truck was sanding and salting the area, so ice would not form, and an accident would not happen to the firemen. I managed to get through around 10:15am, and stayed put. The fire emergency was over around 12 noon, and an investigation is ongoing.
Once again, I don't go to shopping centers/ malls, doctor's offices, movie theaters or public bathroom places where large amounts of sick people congregate. I wash my hands frequently, with a non-bacterial soap (to avoid resistance build-up) and haven't been sick in many years.
