They will gaze upon the rubble of old propaganda mills and theaters of intolerance from a time of willful ignorance and civil strife; and they will try to understand our madness. They will wonder that democracy could have survived the vast entitlement plantations built by the Democratic Party for a thousand years of statist rule. And they will further discover in the dust and fallen shapes of the era’s progressive leadership a distinct layer of radioactive contempt for the American people – all that remained of President Barack Obama's legacy of political failures.
History is not an active force directing humanity towards a state of perfection, but often an account of the vanity of those who believe that it is. And in writing the story of our unhappy times, the scribes will not be kind to Barack Obama. It cannot profit to wait upon the opinions of generations yet unborn, but it suffices for the moment to know that America's long liberal winter of darkness and decline – the debilitating effects of social justice programming, its mythology, its political correctness, its necessary coercion, dishonesty, and error – at last has ended.
Despite President Obama's public rhetoric, we never knew the man, for he used language to create a fog of misinformation around his life, his character and his intentions. He believed in class warfare – the first weapon of Marxist ideology – yet he spoke only of "hope and change," and there we listened. He brought a passion for political reforms that seemed irresistible, and many wanted to hear him; therefore, we gave him our trust, for we are a nation of good will. In this we were honest; he was not. We wanted to give this man a chance to succeed, to do the things he said he would do – this man who spoke so well with words written by others. We remember his perverse ingratitude, as well as his arrogance, towards the working middle class, the very people who offered him their hopes for a better life. We wanted to believe in him; he did not wish to believe in us.
To be dishonest, to speak falsely to the American people, is to be irrelevant. There is no good instruction in a lie. When Mr. Obama tried to explain the historic Democratic losses following the 2014 and 2016 elections, he would not admit their self-evident cause in the failure of his policies or his serial abuse of the public's trust but rather attributed these losses to "a failure of messaging." In other words, the Democrats, in his opinion, would not have lost the governorships, the Senate, the House, and the presidency if only established liberal voices had more forcibly articulated his message to the voters, and he scolded journalists for their failure in disseminating and explaining it. The statement expressed his unfaltering commitment to the misinforming power of propaganda and the use of an ideologically aligned press – a culture without conscience – as its uncritical agent. More importantly, however, this unguarded assertion reflected not only his dishonesty but also his conviction that he was speaking truthfully.
The Orwellian principle of "doublethink" – the ability to lie and at once to believe the lie – extends throughout modern liberal culture as a pathological marker of self-delusion; and the left's irrational determination to reinvest in the programs of their discredited vision for America, even after an overwhelming electoral defeat, throws up a strong bulwark against the trust and common sense of the American people. Psychiatry informs us that self-delusion is the worst of all possible delusions; but when political enthusiasms carry self-delusion into crowds, into the tribes and unfinished minds of the collective, multiplying a single catastrophe by millions, then entire cultures will subsist on diets of false news and false science and the unintelligible false certainties they inspire.
These are the cultures that leftists now promote as a democratic ideal, but progressivism is a democratic movement only in its initial pursuit of power. As we have witnessed under the Obama administration, once progressive interests have achieved victory through democratic elections, every effect of legislation and executive rule-making authority works to organize targeted minority and ethnic groups into a state of absolute dependency on federal entitlement programs, a vote farming scheme that must ultimately destroy the democratic process.
Mr. Obama approached the presidency as an academic exercise, an opportunity to bend America over a template of social theory. He is like an islander who has just cut down the last trees on the island. One wonders what he could possibly have been thinking as he felled the people's only hope for further development. Here is cunning, possibly, as he might have thought the native population would come to depend upon his tribe for their necessity. Nevertheless, here is failure, certainly, whether of foresight, awareness, upbringing or plain common sense; but surely some counsel guided his hand. It is enough to know that this is how the left’s doctrine of power elevates force above principle. Centralized government, arbitrary authority, overregulation, and social engineering, all under the template of "social justice," mark the end of cultural energy and progress, never the origin of that happy egalitarian millennium foretold in progressive scriptures.
The Democratic Party is no longer a national party, having lost more seats at the state and federal levels under the Obama presidency than at any time since the 1920s. No one can argue that the president, due to his erroneous domestic and foreign policies, is not largely responsible for this political disaster. History has made a place for Barack Obama beside the abandoned portraits of fellow Democrats, President Franklin Pierce, whose political prejudices started the nation on a path to Civil War, and President James Buchanan, who lacked the necessary strength of character to confront the secessionist movement and who, like Obama, preferred to leave to the next president those difficulties for which he was so utterly unprepared.
If apology for America’s mistakes must fashionably precede an audience for the world’s opinion, then accordingly, America apologizes for President Obama. Twice, as president, he took up the oath "to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States," and twice he laid it down. He never spoke for the American people; he spoke rather for an idea of unlimited government that the people could not accept. His one legacy achievement may be that he created the need for Donald Trump. It is a correction demanded by political justice – that truth shall impeach the liar. Who but the people shall correct their government when it has fallen into error? The question informs us because it is honest. The surrender of liberty is a choice perpetually available to all free peoples. The object of progressive doctrine is to render that choice acceptable to the majority of voters. Should we forget this, or should we fail to understand the left's determination to create the political and social divisions necessary for their own success, then by our negligence we shall have forfeited the means of correction.

A Day In The Life
After getting zero sleep on Wednesday, and just a couple hours yesterday, I took every opportunity today, Friday morning, to snooze on the LR couch, for 1-2hr periods. The Gas Co's sub-contractors showed-up at 9am for their 10am replace-the-meter-riser appointment, but after they rechecked all gas appliances' pilot lights, and left, I slept until 3pm. Following the Fla Airport shooter story in between sleep periods, I also noticed another ***WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY*** posted, for another 2-3" of snow, overnight and into tomorrow. Back to sleep until 9:30pm, up and have some cool water and a smoke, and back to sleep.
It was still snowing lightly and a very cold 16°F, when I got up on Saturday morning at 8am, with barely 2" of additional accumulation. I was feeling marginally better, as the blockage had moved south, and the possibility of dislodging and passing it, was hopefully improving. After OJ and coffee, I skipped any food – just no appetite – and with a now 101.3°F fever, I slept on the LR couch until 7pm. Same routine as last night: a glass of cool water, a smoke and back to sleep.
After a night of interesting dreams, I was up at 5am, had some water and a smoke, and went back to sleep until 8, on Sunday. 10°F outside and bitter cold,40-45mph wind, with more to come. I watched the blizzard's progress up the East Coast, into New England, and was glad we were further inland and would avoid 95% of it. After some OJ and coffee, I tried to get my usual Sunday shave/shower/laundry done, but only got the laundry going. The others will have to wait until this blockage/fever etc is over; I just don't have the strength for it, right now. This thing is hanging-on like a like a hair on a biscuit.
The fever returned, so I came back downstairs and laid down again, on the LR couch. Not remembering the last time I ate something, I made some simple Chicken Noodle Soup, with saltines, but the fever and nausea told me that I might not be able to keep it down, and it went back into the 'fridge. I managed to keep down a few cups of applesauce, but that was it. But the mysterious 'blockage' was gone. Back on to the couch, wrapped in (my friend Sherry's) knitted afghan quilt gift, and back to sleep. Just 8°F outside, and after setting the condo temp at 76°F, for the night, I took a ½ Rx 12.5mg Ambien® CR™, and finally dropped-off to sleep around 11:30.
I slept-in until 9:30 on Monday, and woke in a drenched wool shirt, t-shirt, sweat pants, afghan blanket and handtowel-covered sofa pillow. The fever was over, and I lost the battle. After a change into dry clothes, checked my weight loss since Nov 30th – (265 -> 216 = 49lbs) – I had some OJ, made a ½ carafe of coffee, some fruit, and noticed that I'd left the condo temp still set at 76°F all-night, instead of dropping it to the usual 72-73°F. Serious brain fart. I had some errands to do, took some fruit along to munch on, and was back by mid-afternoon. The fresh air was nice, and no fever. The pile of mail from the past 3-4 days wasn't too bad, considering the Christmas/New Year Holidays were over, so I put it aside until tomorrow. Nothing marked URGENT.
I watched History's Transition of Power: The Presidency and a new episode of American Pickers, Season 16, until 11pm, then closed down and bagged it for the night.
Up at 9am on Tuesday, 13°F and a windy, bitter cold day ahead, I had some OJ and coffee, skipped breakfast, and began streaming the Chris Plante Show live on WMAL/DC, 9-12, until 10:30, when the unwelcomed ***WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY*** for snow/sleet/ice, began hitting all the Net and CATV stations. I needed to get a carton of Marlboros before all that ice/sleet froze everyone inside, so I left right away for a local convenience store, picked-up my mail, and got back as it started. Heh, just isolated squalls passing thru. No biggie. The pile of filing, on my desk, was getting noticeably larger, but I'll deal with that later.
I had a half Egg & Olive Salad Sandwich for lunch, and checked for any bills needing paying, still putting-off the filing chore. It was all anti-Trump FAKE NEWS all-day, on every channel and station; finally I just had to shut down all media to get away from it, and play some classical music. I hope he takes serious retribution and revenge on all of them. No, I didn't watch 0sambo's speech; he's an inveterate liar, traitor and should be hanged, after due trials, for what he's done to America and the world, over the past 8yrs. I shut down early at 10pm, and wanted to sleep-in late Wednesday, but had errands to get done in the morning.
Awake at 8 on Wednesday morning, it was a sunny, 45°F start, and I had the last of the Fresh-Squeezed OJ w/ lots of pulp, and coffee, and left for Weis Market, in East York, by 9:30. After a call to the Rite Aid in Stewartstown, I was informed that 2 of the 6 Rxs wouldn't be ready until tomorrow, so no point in making 2 trips. I grabbed a large cart this time, due to a long list, used sani-wipes on it and my hands, filled it quickly, ran into some former customers and current friends, and because Dad was still asleep, drove back home to unload the Jeep, around 11am. I heard on the news, that in 2017, Texas again leads the way in subhuman, murderous filth disposal, as usual. Oooooo-rah!
Gas and diesel prices at the pump, are all way up since (at least since I was last took notice) Friday, January 6th: Unleaded Regular (87 oct) is up 14¢ to $2.59/gal, Unleaded Premium (89 oct) is up 14¢ to $2.79/gal, Premium (92 oct) is up 14¢ to $3.09/gal, and Diesel Fuel/Kerosene K-2 is up 9¢ to $2.99/gal.
The rain started shortly after 3pm, with forecasts for 60-65°F tomorrow. I had a salad and some fruit, and did some of the piled-up filing, until my favorite, and one of the very best, most erudite Talk Radio Shows, ever produced and aired, John Batchelor Show, 9pm-1am EST, Mon-Fri (stations, podcasts etc), came on at 9. By 11:30, I was ready for some sleep.
Up at 7:30, I could have easily slept another 2-3hrs. At 51°F, it felt like an April Spring morning, but that won't last very long. After OJ and coffee, I left for Southern York County at 9. There were 7 Rxs waiting for me at Rite Aid, one of which I'd discontinued and had them put back, thanked them and left. I ground 3lbs of coffee beans at Saubel's Market, next door, ran into some old friends for a quick update, and left for Red Lion to get a haircut at Walt's Barber Shop, along the northern route home.
I got home around 1pm, called Dad and took some things over to him. We had a nice visit, until he mentioned that his Thunderbird Email was giving him problems. I've used it since 2006, and it's always been slick. Anyway, I spent almost 3hrs trying to fix something, which can't be fixed. His T-Bird v46.5, and is exactly what I'm using, but they aren't at all; they don't look or act alike. I gave up in frustration, and came home to do some research on it. After watching Velocity TV until 10, I quit for the night. 62°F outside. Imagine that shit. Tomorrow's another day.
Conundrum.
The very definition of the word conundrum is "something that is puzzling or confusing". Here are six conundrums today, in the US:
1. America is capitalist and greedy - yet half of the population is subsidized.
2. Half of the population is subsidized - yet they think they are victims.
3. They think they are victims - yet their representatives run the government.
4. Their representatives run the government - yet the poor keep getting poorer.
5. The poor keep getting poorer - yet they have things that people in other countries only dream about.
6. They have things that people in other countries only dream about - yet they want America to be more like those other countries.
Think about it. That pretty much sums up the USA in the 21st century. Kind of makes you wonder who is doing the math.
These three, short sentences tell you a lot about the direction of our current government and cultural environment:
1. We are advised to NOT judge ALL muslims by the actions of a few lunatics, but we are encouraged to judge ALL gun owners by the actions of a few lunatics. Funny how that works. And here's another one worth considering...
2. Seems we constantly hear about how Social Security is going to run out of money. How come we never hear about welfare or food stamps running out of money? What's interesting is the first group "worked for" their money, but the second didn't. Think about it. And last but not least...
3. Why are we cutting benefits for our veterans, no pay raises for our military and cutting our army to a level lower than before WWII, but we are not stopping the payments or benefits to all illegal aliens?
Am I the only one missing something?

Obama: "Entrepreneurs Don't Build Businesses"
"Last week, President Barack Obama delivered some telling remarks to a fire station full of people in Roanoke, Virginia. I'll save you the trouble of reading the (long and uninspired) speech and provide you with the most interesting part:
"If you've got a business – you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen." – President Barack Obama, July 13th, 2012.
It would be easy to respond with something along the lines of, "Somebody else made that happen? Who? Who magically imagined the product or service, started the business, built it up, and created the jobs? Who was it? The tooth fairy?" And to some extent, President Obama's statement is so ridiculous as to merit that sort of quick, flippant response.

However, he's not entirely wrong. This reminds me of an argument that Massachusetts Senate Democratic candidate Elizabeth Warren would probably make. If he's talking about a mid-sized or large business, where an entrepreneur has hired additional employees, then at that point the business's success isn't purely that of its founder.
Employees add value to a business through work and ideas. That's why you hire employees, after all. Steve Jobs didn't invent every last detail of the phones, computers, and tablets to come out of Apple over the last decade. There were engineers working on those products who developed them. So, employees help entrepreneurs to build their business. "Somebody else" did indeed play a part in making that happen.
But what makes the president's remarks so inane is the totality of what he's saying. He's not saying that entrepreneurs and employees work together to build a business. It's not a collaborative effort. It's all thanks to the employees. Usually, I can understand the way the president's mind works on most issues by examining it through a pragmatic, liberal, or progressive framework. This one baffles me.
As I explained, I can see that he has some of a point, but he's still just obviously wrong on the broader point. Sure, the employees help to build the business, but the business itself wouldn't exist without the entrepreneur. So, to say to entrepreneurs and to business owners, "...you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen," is just wrong. It's silly. They did build that by setting the foundation for the business.
Entrepreneurs are almost always the hardest workers in their business. They work a simply insane number of hours to get their idea off the ground. If they succeed (and they face a tremendous risk if they don't), then they'll start to grow and to hire employees to help. Honestly, if I were an entrepreneur and I read those remarks by the president, I would be furious. It's a tremendous insult to the true job-creators in America, entrepreneurs.
In the context of a long, somewhat rambling campaign speech that touched on every issue under the sun, it may seem as though I'm over-exaggerating the importance of a minor thing he said. But President Obama isn't a stupid man, or even one who makes off-the-cuff remarks he doesn't really mean. He's a very smart man, and he meant what he said.
When the most important issues for most Americans are economic growth and job creation, I believe it's essential to know exactly where both candidates stand on the importance of entrepreneurs.
