must have read that specific news item incorrectly, or so I thought, so I re-read it three more times, just to make sure I wasn't having visual hallucinations, ala "the 60s". Sure enough; it was correct. But the DBMs (drive-by media) had parcelled-it-out to only a select few of their liberal-demokkkRAT outlets, for their reading edification. The liberal-demokkkRAT-controlled-US Congress is going to sue OPEC over high oil prices. Well, shit: that'll just put enough fear into their murderous, boy-buggering, women-chattelling, genital-mutilating, homo/sodomite-murdering, subhuman muslim=islamic-arab hearts, won't it? I began to think if/when I had ever heard of anything so f•cking stupid/dumb/asinine in my life, as that was. It definitely stood alone, and head-and-shoulders above anything I'd ever put into the Journal's, "Things Which Make Your Head Explode" category. I thought so hard that I soon had copious amounts of blood squirting from my eyeballs, and other assorted orifices. Nope; that was definitely — I'm having a hard time finding the adjective(s) to fully-describe it — the absolute dumbest thing I've ever heard of. Ever. As I said just two weeks ago, we elected those morons and idiots. Instead of drilling ANWR and offshore — for hundreds of billions of barrels of oil, and billions of trillions of cubic feet of natural gas — the US Congress is going to sue OPEC. Instead of building nuclear power plants, the US Congress is going to sue OPEC. Instead of increasing refining capacity by building new refineries, the US Congress is going to sue OPEC. Instead of cutting out the umpteem worthless California-mandated "blends" of "seasonal gas", which interrupts the entire US market flow during the 2-3 week changeover period, the US Congress is going to sue OPEC. Instead of refining quadrillions x trilions-of-tons of oil shale into useable crude oil, the US Congress is going to sue OPEC.
Wait; hold on a minute: remember that nothing happens by chance in the political big leagues and both political parties were and are cognizant of the win-win "strategery" of the sponsors of the bill. First, a lib-dem sponsors the bill knowing full well that it will pass because it puts the GOP in the position of having to vote against a bill as perceived by the "lumpen masses of sheeple" — remember, that's you and me; "The American Electorate", who voted the morons into office — as legislation to help reduce the current $4+/gal price. Second, it passes and the president will correctly veto it. However, who comes out as the uncaring ogre on the veto? Which president and which party comes out as unfeeling, uncaring monsters in this brilliant political finesse by the lib-dems? Pure politics in an election cycle; that's all it is. Merely silly symbolism and zero substance. But so what? The American Electorate has the attention span of a three-year old child, who's easily-distracted by a set of shiny car keys, if history be the true judge.
Net, net: your guess is as good as mine, as to what the US Congresscritters are truly up to. What I do know is that their criminal activity, monetarily-aligned with the environment/green groups, to hamstring America's ability to find and develop our own energy resources, is a treasonous and hanging offense, IMO. How many of them are bought-and-paid-for, is a matter of conjecture; enough to stymie us and do serious damage to this economy, for sure. My attention span is quite long, and I see and remember such things. And I won't forget this behavior.

We made the local papers, once again; but this time, in an "after-the-fact", follow-up blog-only interview of me, for the article. A real shame they work on such 'tight deadlines' for such articles, but "it is what it is": a simple, vapid veggie story without my "meat & potatoes" input, and it came-off like it. You read and decide how shallow it is. Here's the rest of the reporter's YDR.com 'blog', which gets at the real "meat & potatoes" of the story. A real shame that the reporter couldn't have postponed it, until I weighed-in with the story's true focus, IMO.
I was glad to get out of the GC&N Complex by 5:30pm on Friday, and then home to listen to The Savage Nation, weekdays from 6-9pm. By 11:15pm, I was exhausted and quickly retired, knowing that tomorrow, from 8am-5pm, was my last day at work, until Tuesday. Well, not really. I'd gotten all the billing completed by 3pm on Saturday, but still had 5-6 varying-in-degree-of-complexity LSCP Estimates, to get completed and mail.
At 7am Saturday, the traffic on my 15-mile trip to work, was unusually light, except for the massive 'yard sales' being set-up in fields along the route. We had a steady, brisk stream of retail traffic, all day. Lots and lots and lots of small and medium-sized purchases, but no "big ticket" items buys, as with previous Spring purchases of multiple large trees. With a 71°F temp, blue skies and a moderate NW cool breeze, it was a true pleasure to be alive and helping others. Key Staff employees Jennifer, Seth, and LSCP Crew employees Lee & Tyler were in to help Dad & me, for the day's activities/work, and I appreciated their most-able help, bigtime. Many of the retail customers' over the past 3-4 weeks are "new faces", presumably from the 18th Open House festivities. I don't know what else to connect them to, other than simple word-of-mouth referrals.
Another 3-4 day weekend (depending upon your schedule) with nothing-worth-a-crap, on CATV; nevermind plain old TV. Fortunately, in addition to the RAID 0+1 (4 250Gb Sata® HDs = 1 terrabyte) machine's blindingly-fast and hi-cap storage, I also have an external Seagate® SATA® 200GB HD, which is almost filled with backed-up business/entertainment files from work and home. So I played some movies which I hadn't seen in a long time; great flicks, eh? Heck, I have enough saved movies to put any Blockbuster® store, out of business in 15 minutes. Heh.
Sleeping-in on both Sunday and Monday mornings 'til 11am or so, was much appreciated. So was the Starbuck's extra-strong "French Roast" whole bean coffee, and Eggs Benedict for breakfast, I made. I went down to the Office, did some paperwork, budgets, worked on some LSCP Estimate Phases, per James' design, watered some wilted hydrangeas on the front porch, and tried to figure out why my new Logitech MX3200 Mouse (Keyboard is okay) is acting so weird. I have the same mouse/keyboard at home, and it's doing just fine-and-dandy; the Office unit's a wackjob: sluggish, wobbling and dragging all over the page, imprecise in pointing. Maybe I need to uninstall/reinstall it? It seems that the Logitech software mouse controls are fighting the WIN-XP O/S mouse controls, or something. I've got a couple of other things to try before that "court of last resort". It was a very warm 75°F, on Sunday and 85°F on Monday, with nighttime temps in the low 50s. Great sleeping-with-the-windows-open weather, BTW.
I spent Memorial Day sleeping-in, going to work to getting some company business/unending paperwork done, and getting caught-up for the coming week, driving with a friend down to Graul's and to Wegman's in Hunt Valley (MD) to get some fine food, back working on company paperwork, observing my 4-year ritual of remembering those whom Memorial Day is all about, and finally getting home around 6pm. I missed Padre Tom's Church's Memorial Day Service (his email got caught-up in my corp server's spam filter, and I didn't get it until my day was already planned; that technical glitch is now fixed), and didn't get to any of the local York Memorial Day Services, nor did I get to go with Mom & Dad to all our relatives' gravesites in the 4 local cemeteries, to dress-up the gravesites and thank them, with hand-picked flowers from our own gardens, as is the Shelley Family Custom, here in York County (PA).
Tuesday was a hot, steamy 85°F day, and I used my AC in the Jeep and Office, each for the first time. A day of site visits, LSCP schedule changes, finally solved my computer's erratic mouse problem (cleaned some dead "gnatmeat" off the optical sensor w/ a wet Q-Tip), more schedule changes, LSCP Estimates, site visits to evaluate customers' 5-yr Warranty claims on partially-dead trees, mulch deliveries, customers' plant disease problems, prices & availability of unusual plant material, did I mention schedule changes?, severe weather moving thru the area and irrigation controllers needs unplugging, back and shoulder pains, customer payments on-lscp job-account, website page changes in both HTML and CSS-xHTML, and ad infinitum, ad nauseum. (((sigh))) I was glad that day was over.
Wow, the Tuesday night's t-storms blew thru in 2 waves, with a total of 1½" of rain and pea-sized hail beating-the-crap-out-of-us, around 7-8pm. My condo's lawn went white with 1-2" of hail, for about 20 minutes. The water rose-up over the curb, into the lawn areas, and up my driveway, close to 1ft. Too much, too quickly. Yikes.
Whereas Tuesday felt like July-August (hot, steamy/sticky & uncomfortable), Wednesday felt like October-November (cool, crisp & comfy). The rain gauge told the overnight tale. When the rainstorm/cloud cover lifted over night, so the humidity and heat, and it was of the most delightful days of the year, so far. I'm enjoying what we now have, in anticipation of the much more uncomfortable Mid-Atlantic Region days & nights, to come. I also solved my Office's "mouse problem" (I cleaned some dead 'gnatmeat' (watch that new word!) from the optical sensor w/ a H20-wetted Q-Tip®, and it works just fine-and-dandy now, and my "keyboard's heretofore uncontrolled-zooming problem" (I watched the Flash Tour of the Features, and found the 'problem'/ 'feature'), so it was a very worthwhile day, if not just for those two simple problem-reductions in my life, alone. (((sigh))) I'm glad that day is over.
Another cool 52°F Thursday morning, and I'm not complaining. "Severe clear" — not a cloud in the azure blue sky — and it too, was one of the nicest days. I had a clipboard full of LSCP site visits to do, and got 6 of 15, done. I get to visit customers' homes with the dead plants, and make decisions as to whether they qualify for Warranty replacements, or not. I give the benefit of the doubt to 99%, but there are those who definitely get their 5 Year Warranty voided, due to "Acts of Man" or "Acts of Nature"; mostly their obvious neglect or abuse of the plants. My Landscape & Hardscape Crews are working hard to get caught-up from the past 2 weeks rain delays, and I'm impressed with their progress.
I noticed that the local gas stations were once again changing prices: another 10¢ increase, seemingly overnight. Unleaded Regular (87oct) jumped to $3.95/gal, Unleaded Premium (89oct) was now at $4.05/gal, and Unleaded Super Premium (92oct) went to $4.25/gal. Surprised? We haven't seen anything yet, friends. My company doesn't have the luxury of simply driving less
because prices go up; we are learning to "drive smarter". We don't have anyother option available, right now.I'm spending some serious time reviewing my company's prices v costs, based upon the huge prices increased inflicted upon me, since January. Some major changes are coming to our pricing structure, in the very near future. I've held the line, for as long as I can, and can't do so anymore if I want to stay in business. Other companies can "give it away"; I can't with my multi-million dollar operation, and all the employees and their families who depend upon me for their living. And I'm not seeing an end to it, anytime soon. We'd all better see it, or we're in for much more than just a short, bumpy ride, IMO.

Many Journal entries are best viewed in the Charrington Roughened and the Orlando typefaces. You may already have Century Gothic on your Windows-XP machine, and that's occasionally used for the body copy or subheads, but grab it anyway! They're free from my website. Grab 'em! Save them to your HD, and install to C:/Windows/Fonts folder, thru your WIN®-XP® Control Panel > Fonts > File > Install New Font. Simple stuff; just takes a few minutes.
Here are a few others, which my Journal will be written-in during the coming weeks/months/years: Papyrus and Acoustic Bass, and Caesar Regular and Carleton and Charrington Strewn and Catherine. Get and install them, and see how much nicer these pages are to view and read. Plus, they add to your repertoiré of available fonts in MS-Word®, as WIN®-XP® System Fonts, so you can use them for your daily documents in MS-Word etc.

CO2 is not a significant greenhouse gas; 95% of the contribution is due to Water Vapor. Man's contribution to Greenhouse Gasses is relatively insignificant. We didn't cause the recent Global Warming and we cannot stop it. Solar Activity appears to be the principal driver for Climate Change. CO2 is a useful trace gas in the atmosphere, and the planet would actually benefit by having more, not less of it, because it is not a driver for Global Warming and would enrich our vegetation, yielding better crops to feed the expanding population. CO2 is not causing global warming, in fact, CO2 is lagging temperature change in all reliable datasets. The cart is not pulling the donkey. Wake-up, folks.

This blog has a bold and simple goal: to "write about every R.E.M. song, eventually." Since its launch in March, last Spring, Pop Songs 07 has gone about its storied task with candor and seeming ease. The brief posts take on song after song from R.E.M.'s oeuvre, frequently delving into the group's history, surfacing quotes from Michael Stipe on a particular tune's origins, or refuting popular notions of a track's great success or lack thereof. The pop maven behind the site clearly adores the band, but he (or she?) isn't afraid to venture an opinion. One post asks, "Seriously now, were they even trying with "I'll Take the Rain"?" Another comments, "It's pretty clear that an entire album of this sort of thing would've been rather ill-advised." The Web's R.E.M. community has responded.
