Last weekend was a madhouse, as shoppers made-up for the previous 15th Open House's Saturday rains and Sunday's cold temps. Hundreds of people were through, and sales topped $20,000. I'm frantically searching for a front counter lady to ring-up sales for customers, freeing-up Dad to help Ken and I with sales in the nursery area. Currently, I have 1-2 seasoned landscape personnel coming in on weekends to help out with digging and loading trees, loading mulch and topsoil, and whatever else our many customers need. Such is it, every Spring and Fall. (((sigh))) The weather's been very warm — a little too warm, actually — for this time of year, but at least we didn't have the early Spring blizzard that those Colorado folks had. Yikes! We had delightful week of good weather and got a lot of GC&N and customer projects done. Just over a year ago, I injured my back's L5 Vertebrae, catching a tree falling off of a truck. Yeah I know, I should have let it drop, but I didn't, like a schmuck. The pain has been bad, and I've been taking prescribed steroids (Methylprednisolone USP 4mg caps) and Hydrocodone APAP 5/500TA (Generic for Vicodin) in the evening, and the meds have made the pain disappear temporarily. I have good days and bad days. I've tried a local chiropractor initially, and his heat/ultrasound treatment did help, but I can't be running there everyother day. I use aspirin daily, and that works well, and I do some stretching exercises, but on the *really bad days*, I have to call my physician for some meds. Getting old sucks enough, but back pain makes it less than fun. Right now, I'm pain free, but that won't last very long. And no; surgery isn't an option. The Texas Senate on Thursday approved a bill that would give juries the power to sentence capital murderers to life in prison without parole. Under current law, Texas juries that find a guilty a verdict in a capital murder case can decide whether the defendant receives the death penalty or a life term with the possibility for parole.
