i used to think that The US Congress was a Constitutionally-mandated, exquisitely-chosen counterbalance to the Executive and Judicial Branches of US Government, but over the past 10 years of following our so-called government's actions closely, I have to admit that I was very, very wrong. It is, without a doubt, the most inept group of scumbags, lowlifes and unindicted criminals ever assembled, at the US Taxpayers' Public Trough: liars, cheats, spouse-abusers, drunkards, drug-addicts, alcoholics, homo-sodomites, pedophiles, traitors, seditionists, enemy-sympathizers, enemy-supporters, hard-left Marxist commies, socialists, dirtbags, lowlifes, scum, filth, hate-US Military, hate-America, hate-Freedom, hate-Liberty poseurs, who say many things to get over on the general populace, and get elected, but do something quite different, once in-place and secure. But, I digress. How do *we* survive the damage they've done, over the past 50+ years, and what do *we* do to get America back on-track? How do we get Real Americans elected, into the corrupt, criminal US Congress, displacing the garbage, trash, junk scum and filth, currently residing therein? There are good and honorable exceptions (in no particular order, other than as I think of them): Dana Rohrabacher, Todd Platts, (former-US Sen) Rick Santorum, Tom Tancredo, Duncan Hunter, John Culberson et al. (If I've missed anyone, pls let me know, and I'll add it to this thread, with a *post-note*.) The damage is done, and probably irrevocable, in principle. Any amelioration would be purely cosmetic, an accomplish little. Solution: retreat and entrench (lib-dem & GOPer-RINO positions) or Do What's Right/Needs To Be Done (My and Other Conservatives' Position). The choice? Isn't *IT* obvious, yet? No, I don't seek any conflict with My Government; I just want to fix it, back to when/where it worked, correctly. Or did it never really work correctly, but I'm just taking notice? Has America muddled-along all these 300+ years with bumbling fools, charlatans, liars and criminals in The US Congress, and still survived, and prospered, in spite of it? It'd sure be nice if this medical technique really worked, and we could ascertain if our corrupt, criminal legislators were, just that: criminal, and then duly-prosecute and "remove them permanently", from society, wouldn't it? So many of us Americans, are crying-out in the wilderness, to be saved from the souless heathens, who would destroy America, from within. The Enemy Within™? Yes, they — muslim-islamist-arab — are out there, and ready-and-willing to kill us all, with their murderous muslim-islamic-arab filth/trash/garbage comrades/terrorist-supporting Fourth Estate™, who are part of the left-wing wacko, fringe-lunatic, progressive-liberal-demokkkRAT, Fifth Column™. The US Justice Legal System is irrevocably-broken, and can't be fixed, in its present configuration. I more than still Believe In God; do you? A nation which will not defend its Border, Language & Culture™, is doomed. Restore the American Constitutional Republic, dammit. Get the federal government out of our lives, and back to the few jobs, which they were originally-intended to do. (NOTE: Hmmmm, it also appears that an attributable quote to Abe Lincoln, which I used in previous "Journal" entries, was in fact, in error. I like the wording and support the message, but it apparently was not said by Abe Lincoln, but rather by the author of the article. I therefore retract the direct attribution, but not the message about those in the corrupt, cowardly, treasonous and seditious US Congress being "saboteurs" in a time of war, and needing hanging.) They all do.

Last Thursday was the 97th Birthday of The Boy Scouts of America, and as an Eagle Scout, Class of 1962, I celebrated it, in my own way. My years in the BSA (Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Explorer Scouts) from 1957-1963, were some of the best years I had as a youngster and to this day, help as many local boys with their Eagle Scout projects, as I can, donating plant material and mulch, advice and time, to help them (and their proud parents) finish-up their projects, to get the Eagle Scout Rank. Last Thursday, one of the Scout's whom I'd helped last Summer, his mother stopped by and gave me an invitation to her son's Eagle Award Ceremony, on Sunday evening, at the Winterstown UMC. I wished her and him the best, but I already had commitments, for that evening.
The weather forecast is for more of the same bitter 5-10°F cold, below 0°F windchills, for the next 3-5 days. Crap. I know I could use a break from it. The Farmer's Almanac is calling for some "serious snow accumulation" here in The Mid-Atlantic Region in early March (4th-7th), but otherwise just bone-crunching cold, as we've been having for the past 2-3 weeks. The 32°F mark would be a veritable "heat wave", if we ever get back there. Ha. And we did on Saturday! I was ready to break-out the sunscreen and beach towels, but thought better of it when I saw the massive Winter Storm gathering of the Left Coast, set to hit us on Tuesday. But compared to what much of upstate New York has, and is going through, we're in a tropical paradise.
On Friday evening, I had a call from Mom & Dad about my younger Cousin, Cathy, 56, being gravely-ill from pneumonia (uncontrollable bacterial lung infection), at York Hospital (York, PA). That's the first I've heard about her recent problems, although she's been through numerous life-threatening situations, in the past 12+ years. Mom's calling all "The Cousins", Becky and our remaining relatives, which aren't many these days, to let them know.
I slept-in on Saturday, did some clothes/food shopping, cleaned and reloaded some firearms, washed the Jeep, and settled-in to a cozy, warm condo, with the fireplace roaring and cats purring, by 5pm. I'd invited good friends, Dave & Jacky, over for a 6-course dinner, on March 6th, and I was finalizing the menu, on my website, when I came across this story of 8ft of snow, in Upstate New York villages/towns/cities. I remembered that The Farmer's Almanac also predicted "significant snowfall amounts" for the March 4th - 11th period, and wondered if it would 'impact our dinner'. Time will tell, as zTFA has been uncannily-accurate for the past 75 years; this Winter, included.
I saw the "Severe Weather Warnings" on www.weather.com's website, on Monday evening, and I quickly took notice. By 7am on Tuesday, the snow was coming down pretty hard, and the roads were already covered. I made coffee, went out for a drive to the local Rutter's Store, to get some cigarettes and orange juice. I'd already decided that I was staying home, and not chancing the 14-mile trip down to the GC&N Complex, where the roads are almost always worse than the rest of York County. There was nothing 'pressing' — Pickle is gone — or requiring my immediate attention, and no sense in taking any chances with icy, snow-covered roads. My pantry, larder and 'fridge were full, as usual, so there was no food or water emergency. As long as we don't lose power from ice accumulation, it was best to stay put. As usual, I'm scanning the weather radar maps and keeping a watch on the storm's formation and progress. By 9am, we had 1+"; by 11am, we had 2+". By 1:30pm, we had 3". By the time I went to sleep, it was around 5-6". On Wednesday morning, it was all sleet and ice coming down, and there was no way I was going to chance it on the ice/snow-covered roads, for a second day. By 12noon, it had changed back to heavy snow and we'd gotten another 2-3". By 10pm, it was over and moving into New England, and we in the Mid-Atlantic Region, are out of it all, except for the massive 2-3 day clean-up.
On Thursday morning, after getting some road condition reports from several snowplowers I know, I decided to stay home and off the ice-choked roads. There were many accidents, stuck cars and trucks, and the PennDot Road Crews were doing what they could, in spite of the ice. 2-3" of ice coated almost every road and most plows were hard-pressed to get under it and lift it off. I cancelled my (employee) plow-guy and my snow-shoveller, for the day, and rescheduled it for either Friday, Saturday or Sunday, depending upon temps getting into the upper-30s, to help melt some of the ice, and make it plowable. Right now, the ice is so think and entrenched, it's like concrete and unworkable. The forecast for warmer temps isn't encouraging. I just don't "have the stomach" anymore, for plowing snow/ice, sitting in the open-cab John Deere 675B SkidLoader, in below-zero temps, as I did in years gone-by. I'd rather pay someone else to do the work. Yeah, I know: getting older and wiser. Maybe.
Wow, 3-4 days inside my condo, due to ice/snow conditions = "cabin fever"! I'm getting 'antsy' and need to get out and do something, besides read books, sleep, clean guns, load mags, clean, re-work storage cabinets, surf the Net, sleep, read books... ad infinitum, ad nauseum. I need to get outta here! Okay, calm down, self.

“Hope Rides Alone™”.
I stare out into the darkness from my post, and I watch the city burn to the ground. I smell the familiar smells, I walk through the familiar rubble, and I look at the frightened faces that watch me pass down the streets of their neighborhoods. My nerves hardly rest; my hands are steady on a device that has been given to me from my government for the purpose of taking the lives of others.
I sweat, and I am tired. My back aches from the loads I carry. Young American boys look to me to direct them in a manner that will someday allow them to see their families again...and yet, I too, am just a boy....my age not but a few years more than that of the ones I lead. I am stressed, I am scared, and I am paranoid...because death is everywhere. It waits for me, it calls to me from around street corners and windows, and it is always there.
There are the demons that follow me, and tempt me into thoughts and actions that are not my own...but that are necessary for survival. I've made compromises with my humanity. And I am not alone in this. Miles from me are my brethren in this world, who walk in the same streets...who feel the same things, whether they admit to it or not.
And to think, I volunteered for this...
And I am ignorant to the rest of the world...or so I thought.
But even thousands of miles away, in Ramadi, Iraq, the cries and screams and complaints of the ungrateful reach me. In a year, I will be thrust back into society from a life and mentality that doesn't fit your average man. And then, I will be alone. And then, I will walk down the streets of America, and see the yellow ribbon stickers on the cars of the same people who compare our President to Hitler.
I will watch the television and watch the Cindy Sheehans, and the Al Frankens, and the rest of the ignorant sheep of America spout off their mouths about a subject they know nothing about. It is their right, however, and it is a right that is defended by hundreds of thousands of boys and girls scattered across the world, far from home. I use the word boys and girls, because that's what they are. In the Army, the average age of the infantryman is nineteen years old. The average rank of soldiers killed in action is Private First Class.
People like Cindy Sheehan are ignorant. Not just to this war, but to the results of their idiotic ramblings, or at least I hope they are. They don't realize its effects on this war. In this war, there are no Geneva Conventions, no cease fires. Medics and Chaplains are not spared from the enemy's brutality because it's against the rules. I can only imagine the horrors a military Chaplain would experience at the hands of the enemy. The enemy slinks in the shadows and fights a coward’s war against us. It is effective though, as many men and women have died since the start of this war. And the memory of their service to America is tainted by the inconsiderate remarks on our nation's news outlets. And every day, the enemy changes...only now, the enemy is becoming something new. The enemy is transitioning from the Muslim extremists to Americans. The enemy is becoming the very people whom we defend with our lives. And they do not realize it. But in denouncing our actions, denouncing our leaders, denouncing the war we live and fight, they are isolating the military from society...and they are becoming our enemy.
Democrats and peace activists like to toss the word "quagmire" around and compare this war to Vietnam. In a way they are right, this war is becoming like Vietnam. Not the actual war, but in the isolation of country and military. America is not a nation at war; they are a nation with its military at war. Like it or not, we are here, some of us for our second, or third times; some even for their fourth and so on. Americans are so concerned now with politics, that it is interfering with our war.
Terrorists cut the heads off of American citizens on the internet...and there is no outrage, but an American soldier kills an Iraqi in the midst of battle, and there are investigations, and sometimes soldiers are even jailed...for doing their job.
It is absolutely sickening to me to think our country has come to this. Why are we so obsessed with the bad news? Why will people stop at nothing to be against this war, no matter how much evidence of the good we've done is thrown in their face? When is the last time CNN or MSNBC or CBS reported the opening of schools and hospitals in Iraq? Or the leaders of terror cells being detained or killed? It's all happening, but people will not let up their hatred of President Bush. They will ignore the good news, because it just might show people that Bush was right.
America has lost its will to fight. It has lost its will to defend what is right and just in the world. The crazy thing of it all is that the American people have not even been asked to sacrifice a single thing. It’s not like World War II, where people rationed food and turned in cars to be made into metal for tanks. The American people have not been asked to sacrifice anything. Unless you are in the military or the family member of a servicemember, its life as usual...the war doesn't affect you.
But it affects us. And when it is over and the troops come home and they try to piece together what's left of them after their service...where will the detractors be then? Where will the Cindy Sheehans be to comfort and talk to soldiers and help them sort out the last couple years of their lives, most of which have been spent dodging death and wading through the deaths of their friends? They will be where they always are, somewhere far away, where the horrors of the world can't touch them. Somewhere where they can complain about things they will never experience in their lifetime; things that the young men and women of America have willingly taken upon their shoulders.
We are the hope of the Iraqi people. They want what everyone else wants in life: safety, security, somewhere to call home. They want a country that is safe to raise their children in. Not a place where their children will be abducted, raped and murdered if they do not comply with the terrorists demands. They want to live on, rebuild and prosper. And America has given them the opportunity, but only if we stay true to the cause and see it to its end. But the country must unite in this endeavor...we cannot place the burden on our military alone. We must all stand up and fight, whether in uniform or not. And supporting us is more than sticking yellow ribbon stickers on your cars. It's supporting our President, our troops and our cause.
Right now, the burden is all on the American soldiers. Right now, hope rides alone. But it can change, it must change. Because there is only failure and darkness ahead for us as a country, as a people, if it doesn't.
Let's stop all the political nonsense, let's stop all the bickering, let's stop all the bad news and let's stand and fight!

For 2007, I wish, quite simply, that adherent-to-islam, muslim-islamists-arabs would get their murderous, fragmented, poverty-riddled, destructive, deviant, degenerate, perverted, unholy 'religious' act together, repudiate the blatant lies, admonitions to acts of torture, murder and terrorism which they 'learn' from that unholy book, and from their 8th century "prophet", and settle-down into a peaceful group of a billion of so, practitioners of that currently-demented social and political cult, called islam, which needs to go through a transforming "Reformation", as Christianity did in the 16th century, and rid that evil cult of death and destruction of its evil, death and destructive tendencies and tenets. Only then, will they be accepted by the rest of The Civilized World. Until then, the Civilized World must keep killing them, by the millions, and hundreds-of-millions, to rid the world of the filthy, murderous, destructive plague, called islam. The future doesn't look bright for islam, as many millions will need to be killed outright, to stop the worldwide spread of death and destruction, as espoused by their unholy book's teachings, and frequent exhortations to death and destruction. What a pity so many innocent Christians and Jews (and other muslims) must die, in that pitiful islamic effort to "spread-by-the-sword", the destruction demanded by islam.
