Over the past 237 years, we have poured-out the blood and treasure of generations of our young men and women to defend our Liberties. A Day In The Life
Up at 6:45am on Friday – sure doesn't seem like a Friday – I made French-Roast, Turkish-Grind Coffee (from whole, freshly-ground Starbuck's® Dark French Roast Fresh Ground Beans) with my Chemex® Drip System, some Fresh-Squeezed OJ w/ lots of pulp and scanned the weather and news sites. Forecast 92-94°F and very humid; not my kind of weather, but I had projects to get started at Dad's, and there was no choice, as we're now up against a specific time deadline for Becky's moving load to arrive. All 4 garages need to be cleaned-out and re-arranged to accommodate Dad's new car, his spare Jeep and the upcoming load of "stuff". I got to Dad's early so we'd get an early start and beat the heat. He'd already mowed the lawn on Thursday *and* cleaned-out the detached garage, so all we had to do was work on the attached garage. That done, we had to
After 2 ears of local Grilled Sweet Corn, I made a Bone-In Broiled Allen Bros® 16oz Filet Mignon, and broiled some Oven-Roasted Russet Potatoes, drizzled w/ EVOO & Kosher Sea Salt, for lunch. Full and getting tired, I went down to my basement workshop and ammo storage shelves, with my Class III AR-15, and stripped/cleaned/oiled it. I unwrapped 25 new Bushmaster® AR-15 30-round 5.56x45mm/.223cal mil-spec mags, with special springs & followers, sprayed them down and oiled them. I did the same thing to 20 new Bushmaster® 40-round 5.56mm/.23cal mil-spec mags, and 15 new Armalite® AR-10 20-round 7.62x51mm/.308cal mil-spec mags, also with special springs & followers. All were wiped-down and sprayed internally with Lithium Grease to enhance their slipperiness being inserted into the AR-15's and AR-10's mag-wells, and to enhance bullet-feeding. Monday was another sleep-in morning, until 7:30. After coffee and juice, I scanned the weather and news sites, began the boring Monday laundry routine as temps hit 82°F by 10am. While listening to the Chris Plante Show, I had a pile of old hand towels in the basement, from cleaning/oiling firearms, which needed their own load, and then a washing machine cleaner run through, to thoroughly cleanse the machine and lines. Yes, I do like the smell of Hoppes' #9 Solvent, but not on my clean laundry. (It does make a great after shave.) Some pretty nasty t-storm red cells were moving into the area, and hit us around 1:30pm, causing brief power outages in my area of East York (PA). Plus, over 1" of rain in > 15 mins; street gutters and storm drains overflowed and once again, our front lawn edges were swamps for 10-15 mins. A few minutes later, another set of storm red cells hit us, with predictable results. As quick as the storms hit, they were gone and the sun was back out, but 10°F cooler. The last 2hrs of Rush was on, so I finished that portion, caught the morning's missed Chris Plante Morning Show Podcast until 5:45pm, and switched over to the Mark Levin Show, where he dealt with the "riot BS", from 6-9pm. T-storms passed thru and headed into NJ, and more were moving east from Western PA. I re-checked the 2 rifles, 2 shotguns, and 1 revolver in their bags, and secured them back in the massive gunsafe, for the night. Likewise, I pulled all the files for each specific firearm, and secured them in my briefcase. By 11:30pm, I was fading, shut-down and headed upstairs. Another busy day on tap.

He also had a problem with some crappy Quicken software, although he uses QuickBooks Pro 2013, and I tried to get the non-complIant software to transfer balances, but it wouldn't cooperate. So he'll have to go to our personal/corporate CPA, who's a Certified QuickBooks Expert, and get help. I also installed 4 new AT&T portable phones, removing the older AT&T units, for storage and back-ups. Obama: "Entrepreneurs Don't Build Businesses"
"Last week, President Barack Obama delivered some telling remarks to a fire station full of people in Roanoke, Virginia. I'll save you the trouble of reading the (long and uninspired) speech and provide you with the most interesting part:
"If you've got a business – you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen." – President Barack Obama, July 13th, 2012.
It would be easy to respond with something along the lines of, "Somebody else made that happen? Who? Who magically imagined the product or service, started the business, built it up, and created the jobs? Who was it? The tooth fairy?" And to some extent, President Obama's statement is so ridiculous as to merit that sort of quick, flippant response.

However, he's not entirely wrong. This reminds me of an argument that Massachusetts Senate Democratic candidate Elizabeth Warren would probably make. If he's talking about a mid-sized or large business, where an entrepreneur has hired additional employees, then at that point the business's success isn't purely that of its founder.
Employees add value to a business through work and ideas. That's why you hire employees, after all. Steve Jobs didn't invent every last detail of the phones, computers, and tablets to come out of Apple over the last decade. There were engineers working on those products who developed them. So, employees help entrepreneurs to build their business. "Somebody else" did indeed play a part in making that happen.
But what makes the president's remarks so inane is the totality of what he's saying. He's not saying that entrepreneurs and employees work together to build a business. It's not a collaborative effort. It's all thanks to the employees. Usually, I can understand the way the president's mind works on most issues by examining it through a pragmatic, liberal, or progressive framework. This one baffles me.
As I explained, I can see that he has some of a point, but he's still just obviously wrong on the broader point. Sure, the employees help to build the business, but the business itself wouldn't exist without the entrepreneur. So, to say to entrepreneurs and to business owners, "...you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen," is just wrong. It's silly. They did build that by setting the foundation for the business.
Entrepreneurs are almost always the hardest workers in their business. They work a simply insane number of hours to get their idea off the ground. If they succeed (and they face a tremendous risk if they don't), then they'll start to grow and to hire employees to help. Honestly, if I were an entrepreneur and I read those remarks by the president, I would be furious. It's a tremendous insult to the true job-creators in America, entrepreneurs.
In the context of a long, somewhat rambling campaign speech that touched on every issue under the sun, it may seem as though I'm over-exaggerating the importance of a minor thing he said. But President Obama isn't a stupid man, or even one who makes off-the-cuff remarks he doesn't really mean. He's a very smart man, and he meant what he said.
When the most important issues for most Americans are economic growth and job creation, I believe it's essential to know exactly where both candidates stand on the importance of entrepreneurs.
