Like clockwork, last weekend was the "Yard Sales From Hell" annual event, and as I drove into work on Saturday morning around 7am, hundreds of people were already milling about the displays of "OPJ" (Other Peoples' Junk). East York, Red Lion, Windsor, Rinely, Stewartstown and just about everywhere were a part of it. Streets were starting to clog with illegally-parked cars, jay-walkers and the smell of Pit Beef and BBQ stands, in amongst all the front yard vendors. No, I don't frequent those events. I simply don't buy OPJ.
Our new cell phones arrived last Friday. After 4 years of using an old, open-faced Nokia-Verizon 1260 model, we got some slick, new clamshell Nokia-Cingular 6061 models, with real instruction sheets, and I'm a happy camper. (The Cingular folks at the Galleria Mall, here in York, were very helpful, and I appreciated their efforts.) They're no Jack Bauer phones, but then I don't need to contact The White House, NSA or CTU, or launch ICBMs from a Trident sub, or... whatever. I finally have an easy-to-use cell phone that does what I want it to do.
My friend, Jeff, is working on building a new super-computer for my condo, as my existing unit's almost 3 years old, yet was the fastest available when he built it. Here's the line-up, so far: CASE: FULL TOWER... POWER SUPPLY: 500W... MOTHERBOARD: RAID & FIREWIRE... CPU: DUAL CORE AMD 64... CPU COOLER... HARD DRIVES: FOUR 250GB SATA II... MEMORY: 2GB... FLOPPY: BLACK... CD-DVD-RW: from the current unit, and the TV-Tuner Card, also from the current unit, as both are current, fast models. The 4 USB ports on the front will be active and I am looking forward to getting and using a couple of Flash Drive units, ala "24".
Here's what the new parts look like. The transfer of current DVD-RW drives, TV card, wireless mouse and keyboard aren't important. Sweet, huh?
Last Saturday and especially Sunday, Father's Day, were scorchers; in the 90s, and very, very hot and humid. Retail traffic was sparse on both days, so my staff spent a lot of time watering the greenhouses and making sure that all of the plant material was getting enough water to withstand the crushing heat. After work on Sunday, I had dinner at Mom & Dad's, went home and had a nice long, cool shower, and listened to The Best of Savage, Saturday 6-10pm EST, and Sunday 6-10pm EST.
Yeah, we got a "few drops of rain", from Monday's passing storms, but nothing like what Houston got. Just damn, and yikes! On Tuesday morning, we got a nice ¼" shower from some passing storms.
I have thousands of birds, geese and ducks nesting on my 20-ac property, in various trees, ponds and marshes, but now I have the "Robin From Hell" building nests — 11 so far! — in my Main Greenhouse, which is packed with shade perennials, and which has an immaculate cement floor. The bird has 2 'friends' who visit her and all three are shitting pooping all over the place. We've ripped out 5 full nests and 7 partials. So far only one egg has dropped when she tried to lay it on a bare steel beam. Don't get me wrong: I love birds nesting on my property, greatly enjoy seeing the babies mature into flying creatures, gladly put out seed and worms for their dining pleasure, but I demand they do it outside of my GHs.
