Decay of our Nation's moral and social fabric set-in during those eight terrible criminal years, and it is going to take more than a generation to recoup what we lost, both spiritually and nationally. But as Americans, we've been through worse, and we'll persevere and be better for it. Here's hoping that the next egg-throwing protestor uses something much more powerful than a mere egg, next time. A hand grenade large rock comes to mind almost immediately.

Drought Watch: last weekend was cooler and featured a few scattered showers and thunderstorms just to the south; much welcomed down there I'm sure, but not enough to alleviate the drought we're currently enduring up here. Customer traffic was heavy on both Saturday and Sunday, despite the weather — 'tis the season, afterall — and I upset a few people in refusing to allow them or myself to go outside during a brief lightening episode, holding metal-shaffed umbrellas. Somehow, they didn't think anything of the safety aspects; I flagged that situation immediately. Better safe and alive, than sorry and dead.
Gas prices in the York (PA) area have flattened, at least for the time being. I paid $1.79.9/ gal (89 octane) last week and it seems to be holding steady, for now. W & Co says prices will begin to drop after Memorial Day, but that remains to be seen. Send me an email and let me know what it's like in your area. I'm trying to compile a "misery index".
On Monday morning at 6:30am, I discovered that someone had illegally entered the 20-acre Garden Center Complex sometime after 6pm, Sunday when I closed up, had loaded 5 large Azaleas and 3 Specimen Cutleaf Japanese Maples into a pick-up truck, slashed the poly (plastic film) on the four 30' x 100' Retail Greenhouse doors, and left. The township police officer — he and his wife are also water garden customers of mine — did the initial investigation and follow-up reports. Combined plant material losses, with labor to repair the four doors, will be over $1000. Sure wish I'd have been here with my .357 Magnum and 9mm when it occurred; I'd have whacked them in a heartbeat.
It rained from Monday through Tuesday night. Rain, gloooooooorious rain, has temporarily ended over 4+ weeks of drought. We're still 8-10" low on ground moisture, but we'll take what we can get. The crews couldn't work in the mud and I had to re-schedule several large landscape jobs and many small-to-medium landscape maintenance jobs, but did so gladly.
I took Wednesday off, instead of my occasional Thursday; I wasn't feeling 100% and felt it'd be better to "re-group" on a off day and come back to work in a more rested state. My sec't re-scheduled my appointments, I slept in 'til 11am, went food shopping and did some small projects around the condo. Temps were in the upper 70s, clear blue sky and moderate humdidity. All in all, a nice day to be out of the Garden Center and rest-up.
Yeah sure, I remember days like this, but they're distant memories now. I use blood pressure medicine now to get and keep it under control.
For over a week, I've had a running email battle with a York Daily Record reporter named Michele, about the use of "Black Power" v "White Power" rants of the 60s and 70s, in a story she wrote. York (PA) had unfortunate race riots in '69 and many blacks used "Black Power" — definitely a racist slogan — as their mantra. It's as racist as "White Power", but the ydr.com reporter couldn't understand why. Methinks she really meant "Black Empowerment", but was duly embarrassed when I called her on it. We spent days arguing via email, to no avail. She's a brain-washed, "pc" lib-democRAT who'll never consider the reality of the historical facts; merely what she wants her article to amount to in a reader's eyes. The future of American journalism in York is in serious doubt, based upon my observations of her disgenuous style of reporting.

Upon arriving at my office early Thursday morning, there was a huge pile of paperwork on my desk, more than usual. Over
30 phone calls to return, landscape jobs to reconcile and bill out, landscape maintenance jobs to bill out and plenty of miscellaneous problems which needed my attention. No wonder I hate taking any time off; there's always a "mess on my desk" when I return.
