Let me make a few observations.
First, eight years ago, and again four years ago, America elected a President. Fully half, give or take a couple of percent, disagreed with the outcome.
There were exactly zero riots, fires, "mass protests" and similar following that outcome despite the fact that half the population vehemently disagreed with it.
This time around, not so much.
Now I want you think very carefully about the following.
Most of the land mass of this nation is owned and resided upon by people who are in "red" (that is, the winner this time) areas of the country. With the exception of certain urban centers and right along the Mexican/Texas border there are very few "solid" blue areas.
Suck it up, Buttercups!Those urban centers consume roughly 90% of the energy and food in this country yet they comprise 5-10% of the land mass. The "red" areas produce 95% of the food and energy this nation consumes and occupies 90-95% of the land mass.
Do you really think that doing something like eliminating the last pieces of the structure our founding fathers put in place to prevent tyranny of the majority from being able to take hold is a good idea?
A little history lesson: Prior to the 17th Amendment ratified in 1913 it was impossible for the Federal Government to shove any program down the throats of the 50 states. That's because the state legislatures had effective control of the Senate and could recall their Senators.
The House was elected by the people, the Senate was elected by The State Legislatures (and could be recalled by same) and The President was elected by the Electors, which were voted for in the popular vote.
Suck it up, Pussies!The latter provides a modest but real increase in the representation of "flyover" states; that is, those with lower population counts. In other words it is a check and balance in the ultimate tyranny of democracy.
Yes, I said democracy is ultimately tyrannical – because it is.
America is not a Democracy. It is a Constitutional Republic. This is very important; in a democracy 50%+1 can render the 50%-1 slaves by mere vote. Those who are in the minority in a democracy have no rights at all. Democracy is best represented by two wolves and a sheep voting on what's for dinner.
We are all minorities in some form or fashion. If you're gay, black, yellow, male, female, whatever – all it takes is some other set of groups to get together and decide to oppress you, and in a democracy you're ****ed.
If wishes were horses, beggars would ride.America's founding fathers put in place two systems to prevent this. The first was the bicameral legislature; a House elected by the people at large and a Senate elected by the State Legislators. This structure guaranteed that a landmass that amassed 50%+1 of the population (not even in the same state or states!) could not band together and shove down the throat of the States any policy measure because you needed the concurrence of more than half the state legislatures, where each were delegated but two votes to their Senators who were accountable to said legislature, to pass anything at all.
This evaporated with the passage of the 17th Amendment. Now you only needed 50%+1 of the people in a given state to pass anything you wanted and they could all live in a tiny percentage of the land mass – such as is the case with Illinois where more than half the population lives in the immediate area of Chicago.
What came right after that? Prohibition, shoved down the throat of the States, less than 7 years later!
What also came after it was an unbridled expansion of the Federal Government into state affairs. Indeed, virtually everything became a "legitimate" federal matter. Why? Because it was impossible for the States to prevent it.
Do you think the founders were wrong to do what they did, and the 17th Amendment corrected that?
If you believe so then please consider this...
Ever drive through small town America?
Hell, how about "not-so-small-town" America?
Many of these towns look like something out of a WWI or WWII European war movie. There was one factory or maybe two, but now it sits empty, weeds growing out of the parking lot as high as your head, all the windows are broken out and the roof has caved in. Over on the outskirts there's a Walmart that pays $9/hour, but only offers 20 hours/week. The factory paid $30/hour, full-time, plus benefits and food, power, medicine and beer cost half of what it does now. 90% of what formerly were little diners and shops in the "center" of the town, which might have one actual traffic light, are gone -- boarded up and often literally falling apart. There might be one bank left, a branch of a big national chain, and maybe an antique store. Maybe. All the factory jobs left for China and Mexico and everything else died when the middle-class incomes to support them disappeared. We did that as a nation with our "progressive" and "global" agenda driven by the 50%+1 that live in the closest big city 200 miles away.
The locals who used to work in the fields within 10 or 20 miles from that town are all unemployed too. Why? Because the illegal Mexicans came and we refused to throw them out. They work for a few bucks a day in cash, no taxes, no unemployment, no nothing. No American can live on that; the embedded cost of just trying to stay alive would leave you with zero. But the Mexicans work hard and then sleep 10 to a single-room apartment, which incidentally is a total ***hole as you'd expect given that density of occupation. They don't care; it's better than what they had in Mexico, you see, and they can Western Union home some of the money. This is the face of "immigration", mostly illegal, that really exists in this country. They brought their third-world ****hole here and while it's a little bit better than what they had in the process of doing it they dragged us into the gutter with them.
The people who lived in that town did and most who are still there do go to church every weekend, and some go again during the week, usually on Wednesday. There's usually one, sometimes two churches. Every one of them has the word "God" or "Christ" in the name on the front. They mean it when it comes to their faith and in addition that's where all the local people shake hands, exchange chit-chat on the last week and, for younger people, it's where they meet one another. You know, girls and boys. Yeah. Faith is real there, you see, and it's Christian. But from your point of view that's deplorable and that "those people" don't like the idea of making a wedding cake for a gay marriage is deserving of a federal lawsuit and loss of the bakery (which is, as a result, now closed – putting yet more people out of work.) The people who live in these towns don't see your point of view as a civil rights matter but rather as attacking God.
What was left after the factory was displaced isn't enough to run a "service economy", which is why it never showed up there and the old business buildings are all boarded up. Nobody can afford $8 lattes on a $9/hour wage for 20 hours a week and nobody would want them if they could. There's probably a McDonalds on the outskirts, and a couple of self-serve gas stations with a convenience store. It sells cheap beer and lots of it to the locals who have nothing to do but drink and then go to church and pray for forgiveness for last night's 12 pack. None of the jobs at any of these places, except maybe the store manager, makes more than $9/hour and Obamacare has forced all the regular workers down to 20 hours a week on top of it. Try living on $180/week gross sometime -- before FICA and Medicare is taken out, never mind gas for the car and the rapidly-escalating car insurance bill – and you might understand. Yes, I know the car is 15 years old and runs like crap. What do you expect on under $1,000/month of income?
This is what 40 years of sending jobs overseas with "trade deals" did. It's what Amazon did. It's what Walmart and its Chinese supply line did. It's what "progressive America" did, and then to add insult to injury the teachers in the public schools tell all the kids that Mommy and Daddy are bad people and hate both the planet and their own kids because they don't drive a $30,000 Prius or a $60,000 Tesla.
This is everywhere in rural America. Get in your car and out of your comfort zone some time and you'll see it. It's not far from wherever you are. I've driven through dozens of these formerly-alive places in the last six months – every one of them dead today, but full of real people. I never met one such person that was a racist, xenophobic *******, but they're not very happy, and the people they're unhappy with are those very same folks you wanted to keep in office in Washington DC.
If you think the destruction of small town America is confined to farms you forget the other half – energy. Would you like your lights to work? Many of those small towns are dead because of the insanity of our energy policy – or lack thereof, tied to left-wing whackjob nonsense.
Now you want to add insult to injury when they show up to vote, exactly as civics tells them we have a right to do, and a large number of you in the cities did not show up.
They bought into the message of bringing American jobs back to America and ejecting those who have no right to be here. You call them xenophobic, racist and small-minded – they call it a shot at decent employment for the first time in 30 years.
They believe in the Henry Ford model of American business, and they're not wrong to do so. Make the product here, pay the people well enough to be able to afford it, and you'll do just fine.
They win the election, in short, and you lose.
Then you decide to be a sore loser and loot, burn, beat people, issue threats, cry, whine on social media and try to obstruct everything by any means possible – legal or not. You bus people in to "protest" and riot, you "petition", you raise hell in short – oh, and all this after you implored the other side to "respect the outcome of the election" and lambasted them for suggesting they might want to merely count the ballots twice!
Note again, as I pointed out above, that eight years ago, and four years ago, these very same people were on the losing end of your stick exactly as they had been for the previous three decades yet they did none of the above. They understand duplicity and your double-standard quite well, seeing as they did the honorable thing and respected the outcome twice in a row despite getting screwed sequentially both times. The only thing your brand of government offered them in the end was Medicaid or worthless "health insurance" through the exchange; the former has no doctors that accept it within 20 miles and the latter has a $5,000 deductible before it pays anything, which is utterly laughable when you consider these folks have a gross wage of under $1,000 a month.
Now the question: Are you prepared for the possibility they might decide en-masse that they're done with this crap – and with you? That they're not going to take it any more?
What if the people who live in the "red" areas, that is, those who produce the food and energy that are consumed to the 90th percentile in the "blue" areas, decide they're not going to do that for the blue areas any more? What if their middle finger goes up, in short?
Remember, we allegedly do not permit slavery in this country any more – which means that which someone owns they have the right to sell – or not sell. They have the right to produce - or, more to the point, not produce.
What if the people who peacefully conceded the result of two elections over the last eight years despite vehemently opposing the outcome decide that if the "blue" folks can riot, loot, beat people who vote the "wrong way" and similar they will not accept any further election result that doesn't go their way, and instead of rioting or burning things they will simply shut off the flow of food and energy to said "blue" areas? After all, you don't value them at all – you consider them subhuman, racist, xenophobic, deplorable and irredeemable – all at once.
I'll tell you what happens if they take that decision: Every major city in the country would go feral within hours.
Within days those cities would not be blue, they'd be blackened and reduced to ash as those very same "protesters" you like so much loot, burn and shoot at each other trying to get the last scraps of food and fuel remaining. They would then probably try to come out of the cities and take by force what had been denied them, only to run into a major problem – the "red guys" have more guns, they know the land because they live there, and more importantly they actually hit what they aim at, having had plenty of practice feeding their families with deer, wild boar and similar. Mr. Gang Banger against Mr. Deer Hunter isn't a very fair fight, when you get down to it.
Oh by the way there's a phrase for what this would mean, if you haven't figured it out by now: Civil War.
Is that what you want?
It's where your actions are headed, if you keep doing what you're doing – and nobody knows exactly where the tipping point is.
Better think long and hard, those of you in the "blue" places who are running this crap. You do not have a snowball's chance in Hell of being able to grow enough in the way of crops on the landmass you control to feed a tenth of your population and every squirrel in your trees would be shot dead and eaten within an hour after this began. Silent spring indeed. Never mind the fact that most of you "wonderful snowflakes" couldn't shoot, skin, butcher and cook a deer – or even a squirrel – if you had to. Never mind that a good 80% of you couldn't manage to run one mile if you were being chased by someone interested in eating you.
The day that cellophane-wrapped chicken stops showing up in the grocery store is literally the day 90% of Blue America starves.
Nobody in their right mind wants such an outcome. But where do you think this all goes if you keep it up, eh?
Every bit of it has been enabled by the 17th Amendment and tyranny of the majority – a tyranny you wish to increase by doing things such as abolishing the Electoral College.
There's a very good reason our founding fathers designed a Constitutional Republic instead of a Democracy. They understand the problem with democracy: It doesn't work. Democracy always ends up leading to riots and civil war, because exactly what the blue folks are doing now escalates until everyone starts shooting everyone.
A Constitutional Republic avoids this outcome because even a very large majority cannot infringe the rights of everyone else – even when the majority lives in big, concentrated places like cities.
That was the magic sauce of the original design in our legislature and Presidency. It's why we have an Electoral College – to provide a bit of "overweighting" to those places that are utterly crucial to the cohesiveness and survival of the nation as a functional republic – that is, a bit more balance against tyranny of the majority of 50%+1.
We got rid of the biggest check and balance with the 17th Amendment and I have, for decades, maintained that whenever America finally is declared dead and done, and the book is closed, that will be written in as the reason our nation's political system failed. It's the only Amendment we cannot reasonably repeal, because to do so would require the sitting Senate to vote itself out of a job. I'm sure you can figure out how likely that is.
But we can avoid doing more violence to our Constitution – and we had better, or the outcome, given the annals of history available to anyone who cares to look, is quite certain. If you want to see how this turns out should you keep pressing the issue go have a look at the map of how many states Trump won .vs. Clinton, or how the county-by-county map looks. You'll see a lot more red of various shades than you will blue.
The bottom line? Go ahead and be a sore loser. Go ahead and whine. Go ahead and try to change what our representative process led to. Go ahead and decide to loot, burn and beat. Refuse to accept the result of the election, if you insist. Hell, go ahead and try to threaten or even bribe the electors! Make sure you tear down the last little bit of foundation and structure inherent in the design of the legislature and executive of the United States. Who needs it; it's all in the name of being "progressive", right – even if when counted by landmass, counties or states the election was a landslide for Trump.
Just don't be surprised, if you keep it up, that at some point, given that you're utterly reliant on those you're abusing for the basics of life – the loaf of bread, the gallon of gasoline, the electricity that powers your lights – they decide they've had enough. That day your supply of cellophane-wrapped meat and plastic bag full of bread disappears like a fart in the wind. There comes a time when those who you've put the boot to for so long, and then try to deny the ability to change things peacefully through the representative process our founding fathers gave us, decide that despite their religious beliefs and good manners they're not going to service you on their knees any more.
Don't be dumb enough to think you can keep doing what you've been doing forever because you can't and if you go too far there will be no warning, no second chances and no saying you're sorry. It'll just happen starting with one final stupid act – and then we all lose.

A Day In The Life
Once again, I abruptly woke at 5:45am on Friday, and once again, couldn't get back to sleep. Definitely wasn't one of those gradual awakenings, and with a simple rollover, back to sleepy dreamland for a few more hours. Dark, 29°F, frosty and darned cold, I splashed cold water on my face, grabbed my Turkish Bathrobe, one of my Kimber .45cal ACPs in-holster (something wasn't feeling quite right) and went downstairs. I fired-up the heat, had OJ, made coffee and remembered I hadn't taken out the garbage bag to the curb, for this morning's pick-up. After doing that, I savored my first cup of coffee, which is always the best of the day, as is my first Marlboro. And the Soft-Boiled Eggs w/ Toast In a Bowl hit the spot.
I scanned the weather and news sites. Barry 0sambo boy wants the leftist demokkkRAT rioters to continue looting and rioting. The Germans are just figuring out that they're about to be islamicized and murdered; better late than never, I guess. 10th graders staged a mock assassination of Trump, at Marshall High School, in Houston. And a brain-damaged reporter claims that Trump not taking a salary means he's like Hitler; natch.
I also found the secret audio recording of Loser Hillary's Tantrum from Election Night, at her mansion in Chappaqua (loosely-translated from Indian: she who walks with chafed thighs). Have a listen.
I streamed the Chris Plante Show on WMAL/DC, 9-12, and got a call from Dad's landscape company, asking me to meet them at his home, at 1pm. They had a standing work order for Fall Maintenance, and wanted to review it with him and me. I left at 12:45pm. With everything complete by 3pm, I left for home, made a stop for a gas fill-up, and worked on a few chores around my place.
The blizzard in the Midwest is steadily moving east, and we're forecast to get nighttime 20s/30s temps and flurries on Sunday, with the bulk of the snow remaining north of us, in the York-Harrisburg area. Yay.
After the evening news, I watched an old 2009 movie, The Hurt Locker (2:11), a few episodes of Gold Rush, Season 7, and a few of Triple D "Thanksgiving", until around 12;30am. Lights out.
Up at 6 on Saturday morning, I found that I'd left the heat at 76°F all night, turned it down to 60°F and went back to sleep until 9. Some OJ, coffee and Fried Ham, Home Fries & Eggs, weather, news and it looks like we'll be getting a taste of Winter, tonite.
I replayed a few of the week's missed Chris Plante Show WMAL/DC 3hr Podcasts, while I did paperwork and filing, had a Dbl-Decker Grilled Ham, Swiss, Tomato, Lettuce, Sliced Pepper, Egg & Olive Salad on Rye Bread Sandwich and Lentil & Vegetable Soup, around 3pm. After walking over to the CHCA Community Mailbox and getting the past few days' mail, I walked around the complex, and noticed a serious increase in wind and a drop in temps. The t-storm/cold front rain (snow 50-6 miles north) and 50-60mph wind had also arrived.
I watched the 3hr NASCAR xfinity Series: Ford EcoBoost 300 at Homestead-Miami Speedway, and 4hrs of Velocity TVs Chasing Classic Cars, Season 10, until 8. I got an 8:30pm call from Choice Security Co that an alarm had gone off at the Old GC&N Complex, probably due to the 50-60mph winds as the storms went thru. The Twp Deputy called me 7 min later with an "OK Check" that all was secure, but the wind was howling, and probably set off a perimeter alarm. The Mecum Auto Auctions from Pasadena were on until 11, and had some very worthy cars and trucks moving thru. Tired, I shut it all down, armed the place and went up to bed.
Indian Summer's over.
I slept-in until 8am on Sunday, cranked-up the heat, made coffee, had OJ and checked the weather forecast. 29°F and very windy outside, with lake effect snow to our northeast, moving this way. Hardly awake, I got another 8:15am call from Choice Security Co that an interior door alarm had gone off at the Old GC&N Complex, and told them not to dispatch the police, and that I'd go down on Monday morning to check the empty buildings and reset the alarm pad. Damn. 20mins later, I got another call about a perimeter door alarm. DAMN! I told Choice Security to put it all on "ignore status" until I get down on Monday. I went back to coffee and tried to wake-up. On the bright side, when I opened the front door, and it was snowing outside, as the squalls moved thru! 31°F and it's sticking to the lawns.
A ***STRONG WIND ADVISORY*** (50mph+) was in effect since I checked the AccuWeather.com site, earlier in the morning, and it was howling all day and into the night. More flurries appeared mid-afternoon, as squalls continued to move southeast from the Great Lakes. Temps were in the mid-30s, all day. It'll be another cold night.
With the laundry underway, I wrote out numerous utility and alarm monitoring checks for my condo and the GC&N, watched the 3hr NASCAR xfinity Series: Ford EcoBoost 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway, 4 episodes of Edge of Alaska, Season 3, some "American Pickers" reruns from several seasons, and the live streaming "Mecum Auto Auctions" from Pasadena. By 11:30, I'd had enough and was fading fast. Time for sleep.
I managed to get about an hour of restless sleep, before the 3 wounds on my ankle began hurting and woke me. I took handfuls of usually reliable Bayer® 325mg Aspirin, but that only helped a little. With the heat cranked-up to 77°F, and a bitter 31°F outside, I had a bacon/mayo sandwich, and laid down on the LR couch to try to catch some sleep. Didn't work either; I couldn't get past the intermittent pain. After some OJ, I made coffee, and decided to go down to the GC&N early, check the buildings and greenhouses, and reset the alarm keypad. I left at 7:30.
Traffic was heavy on Rt-24 South, thru the little towns on the way to the Complex, but thinned-out quickly once I got south of Red Lion. The wind was blowing hard and several large branches/small trees blocked one of the GC&N's roads, so I had to detour thru a field, to get to the Main Bldg and Greenhouse. I secured the exterior and interior doors, reset the keypad alarm, locked-up and left for the drive home. After several stops, I got home around 11:30, unloaded the Jeep and swept the mounds of oak leaves from the driveway, front walk and porch. While having 3-Alarm Chili and Potato Salad for lunch, I replayed the morning's missed Chris Plante Show WMAL/DC 3hr Podcast, and worked on sorting the weekend's pile of mail.
I had laid-out Thursday's Thanksgiving Dinner Menu for Dad, Becky & me: Stuffed Turkey Breast, Cornbread Stuffing, Sweet Potatoes, Broccoli w/ Cheese, Pistachio Gelato for dessert, a White Wine with the meal, and could plan the cooking sequence.
The Velocity Channel was running a 2013 series, called What's In The Barn?, about vintage/antique motorcycles, and I watched that all afternoon and into the evening. Some rare and amazing hardware! Finally, the American Pickers: The Greatest Pick On Earth (S16-E8) episode had a freakish tranny on it; I was dumbfounded as to why they put him/her/it on the show. Fading fast from no sleep last night, I called it quits at 10. Condo lscp clean-up at 9am.
Up at 7:45am on Tuesday, I fired-up the heat, had some V8 and made coffee. I scanned the weather and news. It was 53 years ago today, that JFK was assassinated. Syracuse (NY) is getting buried in an unending snowstorm. And the DJIA briefly opens at and breaks the 19,000 mark. BFD. My landscape maintenance company arrived at 8:45, cleaned-up the front of the condo for $100, and left. I streamed the Chris Plante Show on WMAL/DC, 9-12. Jeeeez, I have several credit cards expiring in a few days, and new ones to activate as replacements. Maybe I'll just destroy them all, since I rarely ever use any, and just be done with it.
I had some errands to do, and was back by 5pm. Traffic was getting very heavy on the interstates and main roads, as people left for the long Thanksgiving Holiday period. I heated-up some leftover PA Dutch Chicken Pot Pie, and watched new episodes of History Channel's Curse of Oak Island and Hunting Hitler, until 11. Lights out.
Wednesday morning at 6:45 was a bitter cold 18°F to start, so I grabbed my Turkish Bathrobe, and hurried for the Honeywell® Digital Furnace/AC Thermostat, to get the furnace fired-up and condo quickly up-to-temp. OJ, coffee, I scanned the usual weather and news sites, and noticed this in the NY Post:
Tues, Nov 22nd: "Trump won't pursue charges against Clinton". Huh?
Wed, Nov 23rd: "Why Trump isn't pursuing charges against Hillary Clinton" What?
Check me on this, but didn't Trump say at the 2nd Presidential Debate, and maintain thru the rest of his campaign, that "If I win, I am going to instruct my attorney general to get a special prosecutor to look into your situation because there has never been so many lies, so much deception," he vowed. Didn't he say that?
So, now it's: he won't pursue criminal charges against Hillary Clinton because it would divide the nation — and she's already "suffered greatly." And "I don't want to hurt the Clintons — I really
don't," Trump said in an interview with The New York Slimes. And “She went through a lot and suffered greatly in many different ways." And When asked whether he would pledge not to prosecute the former secretary of state, the president-elect said, "It's just not something that I feel very strongly about." And "The president-elect added he was also concerned about the impact after the bitter election. I think it would be very divisive for the country."
So now, SHE GETS A "GET OUT OF JAIL CARD" for FREE, and pays no penalty for her many CRIMES AGAINST AMERICA?
Do we take him literally or figuratively, on what he says?
Is this part of an overall strategy, or is it a brilliant tactic?
Uh-oh, is he also changing his mind on water boarding and global warming?
Just remember that all this crap is FAKE NEWS, started by the demokkkRATs, and spread primarily for upsetting the loser snowflakes of Hitlery, and to disillusion Trump's supporters. None of it's real. NONE of it.

I streamed the Chris Plante Show WMAL/DC 3hr Podcast, and heard about all of the wrecks and massive traffic delays in DC, and was once again thankful I didn't work in NYC anymore, or any large metro area, with more than 26 cars. Heh. The DJIA closed Tuesday and opened Wednesday over 19,000 for the first time ever, and no one covered it. All the financial pages' crap stories were about "Trump many crimes". Meh. Does ice cream for breakfast make you smarter? Who the heck knows?
Pistachio Gelato
I set-up the kitchen by staging cookware and tableware, and set the DR table, using a very special "Metal Flowers-In-Vase Sculpture" which my wonderful friend, Sherry, had given me as a present, years ago. I use it often when I chef and have company for dinner, and it gets huge compliments. Another massive snow/ice storm is moving toward this area from the Midwest, and following the last one's path, of mostly hitting 75-125 miles north, but dropping a lot of cold air and some flurries, on the York area.
My 2 investment friends called and wanted to go do some shooting at Freedom Armory, so they picked me up at 11:30, we shot for 2hrs, grabbed lunch at the local Taylor Haüs, and I was back home by 5. I had a pretty sharp pain in my back's right shoulder blade, probably a muscle, so I took aspirin, caught the early news and watched Event Horizon (1:36), a hot 2016 movie now in the theaters, Hacksaw Ridge (2:02), and Triple D's Thanksgiving, until 12:30am. Lights out.
Thanksgiving Thursday morning at 7, was a downright balmy, rainy 42°F, as the southern end of another massive snowstorm moved thru this warmer area. With OJ and coffee, I streamed the "Best of Chris Plante" Show, Becky dropped-off the 12-lb turkey breast and wine, I cooked it, made gravy and waited until Dad and she arrived at 1pm. She brought 3 sides: cornbread stuffing, broccoli and cheese casserole, and maple brown sugar sweet potatoes, plus fresh-made cranberry relish. Good food and great to be with my Family, and we planned our upcoming Christmas Dinner. I carved-up the rest of the turkey, packed-up all of the leftovers and they left around 4. It was another NBC (Nothing But Crap) night for TV, but hey, it's Thanksgiving. I finished-off the night with a couple episodes of Velocity Channel's Chasing Classic Cars, Season 9, closed down at 12:15am, armed the place and headed upstairs to la-la-land. Good day to sleep-in tomorrow.
Tomorrow begins a new week here in the "Journal", and I have bucket of errands to get done Friday and Saturday. I also need to get down to Walt's Barber Shop in Red Lion and get my Winter Cut, get the Jeep cleaned inside/washed/waxed, also for the Winter. I also want to visit Leg Up Farmer's Market in Emigsville, PA and check them out, and then plan a nice quiet night for my 67th on Friday. Maybe a Key Lime Pie? Damn, I hate this getting older crap.

The very definition of the word conundrum is "something that is puzzling or confusing". Here are six conundrums today, in the US:
1. America is capitalist and greedy - yet half of the population is subsidized.

Obama: "Entrepreneurs Don't Build Businesses"
"Last week, President Barack Obama delivered some telling remarks to a fire station full of people in Roanoke, Virginia. I'll save you the trouble of reading the (long and uninspired) speech and provide you with the most interesting part:
"If you've got a business – you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen." – President Barack Obama, July 13th, 2012.
It would be easy to respond with something along the lines of, "Somebody else made that happen? Who? Who magically imagined the product or service, started the business, built it up, and created the jobs? Who was it? The tooth fairy?" And to some extent, President Obama's statement is so ridiculous as to merit that sort of quick, flippant response.

However, he's not entirely wrong. This reminds me of an argument that Massachusetts Senate Democratic candidate Elizabeth Warren would probably make. If he's talking about a mid-sized or large business, where an entrepreneur has hired additional employees, then at that point the business's success isn't purely that of its founder.
Employees add value to a business through work and ideas. That's why you hire employees, after all. Steve Jobs didn't invent every last detail of the phones, computers, and tablets to come out of Apple over the last decade. There were engineers working on those products who developed them. So, employees help entrepreneurs to build their business. "Somebody else" did indeed play a part in making that happen.
But what makes the president's remarks so inane is the totality of what he's saying. He's not saying that entrepreneurs and employees work together to build a business. It's not a collaborative effort. It's all thanks to the employees. Usually, I can understand the way the president's mind works on most issues by examining it through a pragmatic, liberal, or progressive framework. This one baffles me.
As I explained, I can see that he has some of a point, but he's still just obviously wrong on the broader point. Sure, the employees help to build the business, but the business itself wouldn't exist without the entrepreneur. So, to say to entrepreneurs and to business owners, "...you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen," is just wrong. It's silly. They did build that by setting the foundation for the business.
Entrepreneurs are almost always the hardest workers in their business. They work a simply insane number of hours to get their idea off the ground. If they succeed (and they face a tremendous risk if they don't), then they'll start to grow and to hire employees to help. Honestly, if I were an entrepreneur and I read those remarks by the president, I would be furious. It's a tremendous insult to the true job-creators in America, entrepreneurs.
In the context of a long, somewhat rambling campaign speech that touched on every issue under the sun, it may seem as though I'm over-exaggerating the importance of a minor thing he said. But President Obama isn't a stupid man, or even one who makes off-the-cuff remarks he doesn't really mean. He's a very smart man, and he meant what he said.
When the most important issues for most Americans are economic growth and job creation, I believe it's essential to know exactly where both candidates stand on the importance of entrepreneurs. Total, factual bullshit and lies. This was startling. Across the world there were reports of unseasonal snow and plummeting temperatures last month, from the American Great Plains to China, and from the Alps to New Zealand. China's official news agency reported that Tibet had suffered its "worst snowstorm ever".
In the US, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration registered 63 local snowfall records and 115 lowest-ever temperatures for the month, and ranked it as only the 70th-warmest October in 114 years. So what explained the anomaly? GISS's computerized temperature maps seemed to show readings across a large part of Russia had been up to 10 degrees higher than normal. But When expert readers of the two leading warming-skeptic blogs, "Watts Up With That and Climate Audit", began detailed analysis of the GISS data they made an astonishing discovery. The reason for the freak figures was that scores of temperature records from Russia and elsewhere were not based on October readings at all. Figures from the previous month had simply been carried over and repeated two months running. It is called the Center of Military History. It is located 30 minutes outside Washington, D.C., at Fort Belvoir in Virginia. The building itself is very nondescript.
But behind a series of highly alarmed doors and long, cement, camera-laden hallways. It is the highly sophisticated, climate-controlled treasure room where the army keeps its most precious artifacts.
The facility was built for $24 million in 2010. The cavernous warehouse is typically shrouded in total darkness. Motion lights illuminate only the areas in which someone is walking.
