the so-called "Black Friday" shopping day, is a commercially-weaponized plague, dumped on this upon this country every year. As is "Cyber Monday", but at least 90% of the cretinous idiots who shop for the trash, junk and garbage on "BF", aren't on the streets and in the store on "CM". Mercifully, they're at home or work and not causing mayhem and riots at stores across the land.
"Black Friday." It's a name that conjures-up visions of a financial collapse or perhaps a huge power outage. Hardly the stuff of retail hustle and bustle or large throngs of shoppers hunting and A cat can give birth to kittens, in an empty oven, but that don't make 'em biscuits. gathering Holiday bargains and presents.
Originally conceived as a day for retailers to achieve 80-90% of their annual sales goal, thereby putting their company "in the black", it has morphed way past that simple accounting trick.
The term itself has an interesting history. In the 1950s, some factory managers referred to the day after Thanksgiving as "Black Friday" because so many workers called in sick. The day, noted one industrial magazine, was "a disease second only to the bubonic plague" in its effects on employees. In the early 1960s, Philadelphia cops used the term to describe the intense crowds of shoppers and traffic that poured into center city on the day after Thanksgiving. It was hardly a term of endearment. All the people and congestion made police work more difficult. As a sales manager at Gimbels said, watching a cop trying to deal with a group of jaywalkers, "the police think in terms of headaches that it gives them."
Still, the term stuck. And by the mid 1970s, newspapers in and around Philadelphia used it to refer to the start of holiday shopping. But its usage continued to carry negative associations. In the last 30 years, the term "Black Friday" has spread, and the day has become an unofficial holiday – although not for most who work in retail. For them, the day has grown longer. And this year, "Black Friday" became "Black Thursday." At Macy's, JCPenny, and Target, consumers started shopping at midnight on Thanksgiving Day. But Walmart lead the way. It opened its doors at 10 pm on the holiday. Who knows? At this rate, Thanksgiving might disappear altogether or the month of November will be called "Black November."
This year, I was sick with a nasty 264-hour flu and didn't even venture outside – 11 days inside on a self-imposed isolation period – but have only been inside stores once in the past 20-25yrs, on that designated day. Once. Each year, it's just gotten worse, so I don't bother going near any commercial businesses. Partly because I eschew violence, but also partly because I CCW (carry a concealed weapon) and should I be attacked by anyone – ANYONE – I'd shoot them, on-the-spot. So I just don't go. Works out better for them.
If the crowds and parking headaches aren't enough, now there's mayhem, brawls and rioting to contend with. This is a sure sign of a society in distress, disarray and the beginning throes of a societal collapse.
At least Guns were 20% up over the previous year's "Black Friday" sales.

A Day In The Life
Although up 2x during the night for water and aspirin, I slept-in until 9:15 on Friday morning. At 26°F outside, it was nippy in the Condo, so I cranked-up the heat to 77°F, grabbed my Turkish Bathrobe, made some Fresh-Squeezed OJ w/ lots of pulp, Crispix® w/ Blueberries, and French-Roast, Turkish-Grind Coffee (from whole, freshly-ground Dunkin' Donuts® beans) with my Chemex® Drip System. The weather and news sites were boring. Still had a 99.6° fever, for the 9th day. Crap.
By midday, the fever was up to 101°, and after a heaping bowl of Chicken Noodle Soup, I laid down on the LR couch, bundled-up with a large afghan and a wool blanket, and slept for 4hrs. Still wrapped in both, I spent a couple of fever-free hours at the computer, until around 8pm, when it came back. I just shut the Condo down, took more aspirin and went up to bed. The headaches were too much.
I slept-in until 8:15am on Saturday, had a quick breakfast and even with no discernible fever on the Exergen® Temporal Scanning Thermometer, I decided to stay-in for the day. I had a boatload of paperwork to do, checks to write for bills coming-due and a food shopping list for tomorrow morning to work on. USPS
The Sunday morning alarm went-of at 6am, and it felt good to get-up without any fever. Hopefully, it'd abated and I could get "back to normal", whatever that is. 11 days with it. I made coffee, had some Del Monte® Mandarin Oranges, some Fried Ham, Eggs-Over-Easy, Hash Browns & Toast, and turned-up the heat. It was a cold 24°F outside, and I could see a few flurries by daylight at 6:30am. I picked-up my mail, left at 7:15 for Weis Market, dropped-off bills at the local PO, and got thru the food shopping routine in 30mins. I put the Jeep away, unpacked and stayed-in for the day. By 7pm, temps had dropped to 28°F, I listened to "Gun Talk Radio" from 8-10pm, and shut it all down. I needed to get-up at 5am, to be down at the GC&N Complex, to let-in the Hellam Twp crew to continue their tree dig. 1-3" of snow is forecast for Tuesday.
I was awake at 5am, on Monday, just before the alarm went-off. It was a bitter 21°F outside, so the Condo heat was turned-up right away. I felt pretty good, since the fever had abated yesterday afternoon, had a good night's sleep, and today was starting-out nicely. After some OJ, Fried Ham Hash, Eggs & Ancho Catsup, and 3 mugs of coffee, I scanned the news and weather sites. The NOAA warnings were already posted: ***WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY*** until Tuesday, Nov 27, 1:00pm. I put a load of laundry in, and left to meet the Hellam Twp crew, who'd be digging more purchased trees for their newly-built Municipal Complex Buildings.
Yikes. The The 20 Worst Supermarket Foods in America contains a few I used to eat, but gave-up 2+ years ago.
I was home by 12:30pm, made a Roast Beef Sandwich & Fries Smothered in Gravy for lunch, changed bed linens, did more loads of laundry, and took a 3hr snooze. Temp check: 98.6° and holding steady. In another 24hrs, I'll be sure that I'm not contagious anymore, and will go over to Dad's with a lot of things I've accumulated for him, over the past 14 days. I'm also going to go for a flu shot at the East York Wellspan Medical Facility. After listening to the morning's missed 3hr Chris Plante Show Podcast, and from 6-9pm, the Mark Levin Show, I did some "computer housekeeping", called it a day. The snow was on its way.
Sleeping-in until 7:30 on Tuesday morning, the pounding rain and thunder first woke me at 5am, but I went back to sleep. RAIN? It was supposed to be SNOW! We got cheated! By 8am, the rain had turned to snow and it was sticking to lawns and all non-paved areas. After turning-up the heat, I made coffee, had some OJ and made Eggs, Sausage & Fried Potatoes, while watching the season's first snowfall. I'm like a little kid about the "first one of the season". Heh. It's 34°F outside; no wonder not much is sticking, as it's melting as soon as it hits the ground. A disappointing first snowfall. Once again, another night/day being fever-free. I'm planning on going over to Dad's tomorrow morning, now that I'm not contagious. I stayed-in for the rest of the day, had Crunchy Tacos w/Guacamole & Salsa for lunch, and worked thru paperwork and the
On Wednesday, I slept-in until 8am, had coffee, Del Monte® Mandarin Oranges, and Cap'n Crunch w/ Strawberries. I put on the electric blanket while making the bed, gathered-up the stuff I had accumulated for 2 weeks for Dad, and left at 10. After numerous projects and a 3 hour visit, I finished-off my remaining errands, came home, made Grilled Cheese & Tomato Soup for lunch, and took a nap. I'm just "drained" of energy from the flu, and it'll probably take a while to get my reserves built back-up to "normal" levels. REM sleep is nice once again, without the fever. It's getting dark at 4:30pm now, and I listened to more Michael Berry Podcasts until 9pm, and shut down the Condo.
I just knew the good nights' sleep wouldn't last. I was up at least 3x early Thursday morning, and finally got up at 5:30. Another cold 22°F morning. After coffee, OJ and Eggs Benedict 'Florentine' w/ Home Fries for breakfast, I scanned the weather and news sites, checked email and found one from Hellam Twp, who wanted to go to the GC&N Complex at 8am, to continue digging trees. One of the Twp's employees stopped by to pick-up my front gate key, and I went out for a long, refreshing walk. I'll be meeting them tomorrow at 9am, at the Complex, to re-design the landscape plan for their Municipal Bldg.
I had some unfinished Condo projects to work on, made a Turkey Club w/ Fries for lunch, and listened to several more Michael Berry Podcasts, and finished the day with the Mark Levin Show, from 6-9pm. Tomorrow starts a new week here in the "Journal" and, although it's not a terribly-busy week yet, that could change in a heartbeat.

Tens-of-thousands of websites are devoted to the topic of "survival". Do the same with "You Tube", and watch the thousands of videos. This is *NOT The Phony Y2K Crappola*; this is for real. I said numerous times that Y2K was a waste of time and money to prepare for, and that came true.
