After installing the new, super—fast computer at work, I was browsing the Net, looking for some additional Windows *.ttf fonts, when I found the motherlode of 6,500 *.ttf files! Windows Explorer has a built—in installer for the Windows/fonts folders; just right—click, cut & paste and fill it up. I'm especially partial to Papyrus, and if you have it on your system, you're reading this in that typeface.
All in all, it was a miserable time, last week. The heat and humidity was oppressive, for everyone, but par for the course here in the Mid—Atlantic Region. (I'd love to "Summer—over" in northern Canada.) I've decided to lay—off the 8 college students, who comprise my "C" & "D" Landscape Crews, and keep the more—seasoned "A" & "B" Crews, as the volume of incoming jobs has decreased somewhat. This is also par for the course in July and August, as many people in the area go on vacation. We have plenty of medium ($20—30k) and large ($50—75k+) jobs waiting to be done, and a few more coming in, but not enough to justify so many workers. And I re—injured my back's L5 vertebrae after loading mulch on Saturday morning, getting out of the John Deere 675B SkidLoader—Backhoe, forcing me to go home early, take pain meds, and go to sleep early with a heating pad, thereby missing Jeff & Denise's Annual 4th of July Party, on Saturday 10th.
Thank you, Dolly, for the Terrorist Hunting Permit, which badly needed replacement on my '02 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. It was so nice that you thought of me when you bought and mailed it to me. 'W' Comes To York, PA.
President Bush arrived in Pennsylvania Friday morning for stops in Kutztown, Lancaster and York. Security was very tight for the visit. The Secret Service was working with state and local police and fire personnel. The President landed in Eastern Pennsylvania and was traveling the rest of the way by bus. It’s his 30th trip to the state, but first visit to York County.
I called the York County RNC (Republican National Committee) Offices tickets on Monday afternoon, to see if there were any tickets left, but they were gone within a few hours. I had several landscape appointments in northern Maryland, and at the office with customers, so I couldn't spend the 4—5 hours in line, waiting, for tickets. Heck, I support 22 employees and their families. Now I've found out that they held back a few hundred and were handing them out on Tuesday. Dang it.
Despite all the security precautions for W's visit, I sure didn't notice any traffic problems, on my way home last Friday afternoon.
